User ReviewAlex SAmazing. I was more entertained and captivated by simply watching the plot unfold than most action flicks.
User ReviewMilo? ?Absolutely astonishing film! Whole movie set in a one weekend cottage and yet so ingeniously made, has the possible answers for the questions asked for last 2 millenniums.
User ReviewKieran LFascinating story: a group of academics from different fields gather together to say farewell to one of their number. As they discuss history, biology, and theology they argue over whether their departing colleague is who he claims to be. Simply filmed at a single location, wonderfully acted, and enlightening this is bound to keep you guessing until the very end and make you want to expand your own knowledge of religion in the context of history long after the credits have rolled.
User ReviewJeff LOne of the most fascinating films I have ever seen. Be warned however, this is as Dogma as some chamber films get. It is essential a long conversation about the meaning of life, religion, fate, etc. If you enjoy the prospect of sitting on the floor with friends and talking about the universe, then this will be one to watch. If you need giant robots, giant tits and giant quarterbacks, this is not for you. A 'film' only in a very purist sense, this is more like a play, yet due to its subject matter, it keeps borderlining on the surreal. The protagonist claims to be immortal and if you think about vampires, undead and grand wizard, you are mistaken. He claims to be an ordinary dude who just happens not to die. The rest of the film documents who disbelief, belief, fascination and hatred unfolds. The whole spectrum of what one could expect given the cirucmstance is here and it's a great opportunity to think about where you would end up in the scale. The ending is way more dramatic than I expected it to be, considering that the film steers clear of most dramatic effects and classic 'twists'. I am very impressed with this offering. The acting is great, even though it takes a while to get used to the low-budget flair in the beginning. The film does look like an episode of 'Picket Fences'. But once the cast gets going, the essence of the film takes over and entertains you. For the lovers of intelligent and philosophical films. Astonishing X
User ReviewJason DThe Man From Earth is an incredibly large film on such a small scale. Several colleagues (comprised of such cult faces as Tony Todd, William Katt, Richard Riehle, and John Billingsley) and a student gather together in a small cabin to say their goodbyes to a fellow professor (David Lee Smith) who is leaving abruptly and mysteriously. After prying him a whole bunch, the professor caves in and reveals to the group that he is a 14,000 year old caveman. Humorously intriguid, the group plays along and questions him about every angle, to which Smith nearly has an answer for all of them, thus making his story impossible to prove or disprove. The group continues to pry throughout the movie in one consolidated area, which one would think this would get very boring after awhile, but thanks to some great acting and excellent storytelling, the viewer is almost caught in the grips on this man as are his fellow colleagues. Things get VERY interesting when he proposes the idea that he is Jesus to the group, thus causing the stir amongst the group. This is a terrific film and worth a watch by anyone that isn't a Jesus freak. If you are one, don't bother, you'll only get offended by this film and want to take it to your next burning session. Also, there's a great small twist at the end that I wasn't expecting that provided a nicely done pop for the film. Great movie.
User ReviewBosco F"The man from the earth" Oh my goodness , after watching this movie , it is just like i have been through ages of history , a hell of 14000 years . i really gone through almost all the things that was craved in the history . and after a long time i searched my biology text book , i need that for watching this movie for sure . and the thing that struck me like a thrown is that , jesus is never a god ..? oh man , he was only a man .. and he trained to resist the pain .. and Resurrection was framed .. and he had a master , not a father . and what about buddha ? he didn't following any religions , he had no faith in it ..he he .. and loved the role of edith and harry .. christian literal . and the climax was also mystery , and :motherofgod: can't believe this movie has had a only one location , the only scene is a loong discussion about a caveman's life .. ohh .. how did he pull out to frame such a movie like this .. i don't know... am i becoming as an atheist ..?? this movie should be screened to the teens first , then for the religious hardcore fuckers ... Ohh man .. a diamond MOVIE 10 out of 10 .. i would give :D
