Leave your thoughts about Fail Safe.
The Retro SetNathanael HoodThe true terror behind Sidney Lumet's Fail Safe (1964) isn't that things went wrong, it's that they went right.
Three Movie BuffsScott NashThe cold war gets hot in this nuclear disaster film.
EmanuelLevy.ComEmanuel LevyLumet's tense political drama is riveting, but unfortunately it was released the same year as Kubrick's similarly-themed Dr. Strangelove, which was a satire and more thus more popular
Ozus' World Movie ReviewsDennis SchwartzTense, chilling and earnest Cold War political thriller.
Empire MagazineKim NewmanStill an impressive and disturbing brink-of-doom thriller.
VarietyVariety StaffIt faithfully translates on the screen the power and seething drama of the Eugene Burdick-Harvey Wheeler book.
New York TimesBosley CrowtherIt packs a melodramatic wallop that will rattle a lot of chattering teeth.
SlateAri N. SchulmanAs brilliant and grotesquely funny as Dr. Strangelove is, the neglected Fail-Safe is the more mature and damning take on the nuclear enterprise. It feels like it could have really happened, and it’s terrifying as a result.
User ReviewTyler JThis movie has definitely survived the ages, despite the fall of the Soviet empire, and a transfer to big explosions and pretty actors. The terrific acting, brilliantly simple frame-composition, and perfect character and plot-development make this movie a nail-biter even now. The tension of the situation and the heady decisions made effect the viewer powerfully. This is definitely a must-watch alongside Kubrick's "Dr. Strangelove," as their juxtaposition enhances each's brilliance ten-fold.
