In this situation an island near the city becomes strategically important to both parties, but it's inhabited by the last big buccaneer: Jean Lafitte. Although Lafitte never attacks American ships, the governor hates him for selling merchandise without taxes - and is loved by the citizens for the same reason. When the big fight gets nearer, Lafitte is drawn between the fronts. His heart belongs to America, but his people urge him to join the party that's more likely to win.

User ReviewBenjamin XOne of the Swashbucklin'est movies to ever sail the Spanish Main! Plus, Charlton Heston as Andrew Jackson? Kickin' Yo'!
User ReviewJohn YOne of my favorite films. Charlton Heston is Andrew Jackson.
User ReviewJohnny BFrom the team that brought you "The Ten Commandments", here's proof that Age does not ruing Film.
User ReviewTaylor LOne of my all time favourites. They just dont make men like Yul Brynner anymore. Who else could have his looks, his talent, his voice, his presence? The world became a whole lot emptier the day he died.

User ReviewJay MHmmm, an action adventure pirate movie set during the war with the British of 1812 with Charlton Heston, Yul Brynner and Charles Boyer, hmmm, I'm there!. . .
User ReviewJo YThis movie has great stars in their earlier years: Ingor Stevens never looked prettier; Yul Brynner was a convincing Jean LaFitte, conflicted about his piracy and desiring to keep neutrality with the United States. Charlton Heston did pretty good job as Andrew Jackson, but some moments were a bit stilted. It's really a good flick for students to learn that part of our history, and it shows that all happy endings do not include the lovers getting together with each other--sometimes the happier ending is that they sail away and find partners of similar background who will understand them better in the long run.
