The Red String of Fate, also referred to as the Red String of Marriage, and other variants, is an East Asian belief originating from Chinese legend. According to this myth, the gods tie an invisible red cord around the ankles of those that are destined to meet one another in a certain situation or help each other in a certain way. Often, in Japanese culture, it is thought to be tied around the little finger. According to Chinese legend, the deity in charge of "the red thread, often believed to be the the old lunar matchmaker god, who is in charge of marriages. The two people connected by the red thread are destined lovers, regardless of place, time, or circumstances. This magical cord may stretch or tangle, but never break. This myth is similar to the Western concept of soulmate or a destined flame.

User Review - 2/10 by Mario FPromocionado por la prensa rosa "El hilo rojo" es un film romántico pobremente escrito. Opacado por mucho con el drama expuesto en televisión sobre la vida privada de los actores principales. Conocemos a Abril (Eugenia Suárez) y Manuel (Benjamín Vicuña), dos jóvenes, ella azafata (Perdón, auxiliar de vuelo) y él pasajero, que se encuentran en el aeropuerto previo a saber que compartirán el viaje. Dentro del avión aprovechan de conocerse a través de un dialogo bastante lírico. Su historia iba a concluir en una cita al llegar a destino, pero se ve frustrado por un incidente en aduana que termina separándolos. Años más tarde, y habiendo continuado con sus respectivas vidas vuelven a verse aún memoriosos de los eventos pasados. La película peca de pretenciosa, con diálogos densos y forzados no permiten que la conexión entre los protagonistas se sienta legítima. Solo se repite un acto secuencial que consiste en rechazo histérico, diálogo existencial, coqueteo absurdo, bis de rechazo histérico, juego pasional de manos y arrepentimiento. Eso es la película. La "China" Suárez tiene un muy buen desempeño, su actuación es muy convincentes y transmite perfectamente las emociones de su personaje, Vicuña es solo aceptable, aunque no tiene escenas que lo exijan mucho. Los personajes secundarios son planos, las parejas de Abril y Manuel carecen de personalidad, haciendo que no haya una rivalidad que cree tensión. El drama sobre la leyenda del hilo rojo deja mucho que desear, tarda demasiado en introducirse, no hay una buena construcción del romance, y al final solo se rinde, dejando una serie de huecos argumentales en pos de concluir.
