Antagony & Ecstasy - 7/10 by Tim BraytonIsn't nearly as visionary as the best examples of the giallo form.

It does play off of every cliché of the genre (from the score to the killer's outfit), but at the same time, it also makes a few departures (the protagonist is actually a policeman, as opposed to being an amateur sleuth, the killer's interesting combination of weaponry). I will be the first to admit that there have been a few gialli/italian horrors in general that have had me pretty bored at times (I fell asleep the first time I watched DON'T TORTURE A DUCKLING ), but this one had me hooked from start to finish... Excellent pacing, and great use of tension. Composition wise, it looks more like a Fulci giallo than and Argento (the framing and lighting aren't really "artsy" so much as they are "practical" in most parts). I'd also like to do terribly perverse things to Barbara Bouchet (I was furious that she died so early! At least she got plenty of nekkid time...) The Blue Underground DVD is excellent, aside from some dirt here and there (sadly, the sexy-as-hell title sequence is pretty scratched/dirty, but after that the restoration is great) Highly recommended for fans of Gialli, or murder/mystery/thrillers in general.
User Review - 8/10 by Al MA solid and somewhat stylish giallo that doesn't quite rank with the best examples of the form, Black Belly of the Tarantula concerns a killer who mimics a certain kind of wasp that paralyzes its victims with poison and forces them to watch as they are killed. Competent direction, a Morricone score, and appearances from giallo favorites make this a must-see for fans of the genre, but it certainly pales in comparison to some of the better examples.

User Review - 8/10 by Christophe MC'est assez drôle quand même, chaque fois que je vois un giallo qui me plaît j'en parle à chaque fois comme si c'était le meilleur que j'avais jamais vu ! Bon je vais arrêter de parler comme un débutant qui découvre parce que ça fait maintenant un moment que j'en vois. Ca ne fait pas de moi un expert intouchable mais ça permet d'avoir un regard un peu plus critique même si ça ne m'empêche pas de prendre un pied d'enfer ! Et ce pied d'enfer je l'ai pris avec "Black Belly of The Tarantula", et ses meurtres si particuliers proche de la façon de tuer d'une araignée et autre détail troublant les victimes sont liées de par un salon de beauté et les suspects sont nombreux ! Bon, comme j'aime me creuser la tête pour pas un rond, j'ai quand même deviné à l'avance l'identité de l'assassin (pas depuis le début, j'avoue lol). Mais c'est un giallo dans la plus pur tradition du genre avec un suspect qui fait tout pour ce disculper (Giancarlo Giannini super) un érotisme prononcé et assez esthétique, à l'image d'un film qui n'est pas filmé n'importe comment, l'ensemble a de la classe ! Et je ne parle pas du casting féminin qui réuni la crême du genre (il ne manquait plus que Fenech) avec Claudine Auger, Barbara Bach et bien sûr Barbara Bouchet. Du tout bon !
User Review - 8/10 by R.John XNo. 89 on my all-time list------Really a superb giallo with an all-star cast that includes three Bond girls and a young Giancarlo Giannini (Pazzi in Hannibal). Crafty with effective suspense. And like all great Italian films, giallo or otherwise, it uses architecture and its environment as a tool to tell its story both visually and viscerally.
User Review - 8/10 by Bruce BNot sure how or why I put this on my Netflix Rental List, but its A Good Italian Police Drama, I know an Italian Western is called a Spagetti Western, so do you call this Spagetti Deama. Anyway I would put this one in the Grindhouse Collection as it had that type of 1970 theme. A bit of nudity and they were all very pretty not a ugly one in the bunch.

User Review - 6/10 by David SA solid giallo that is notable for having an actually well-developed and complex leading character (a trait that is rare amongst gialli). The narrative, sadly, lacks any complexity as the end revelation is both anti-climatic and thoroughly generic, causing viewers to cry out "That's it?!" Still, the atmosphere is strong and the supporting characters are surprisingly given some dimension (again, more than most gialli). A solid recommendation for giallo fans and a slight recommendation for mystery-thriller aficionados, but others shouldn't really go out of their way to see this.
