Movie Reviews

One Guy's Opinion - 9/10 by Frank SwietekA flawed, erratic comedy-drama that nonetheless remains fascinating because of Gibson's frenziedly committed performance.
Arkansas Democrat-Gazette - 9/10 by Philip Martin...while it's probably not a movie everyone will want to see, is probably the best Hollywood movie of 2011 to date.
Salon.com - 9/10 by Andrew O'HehirI suppose the perfect ending to the chapter would be to report that The Beaver is a masterpiece. It isn't quite, but it does offer an astonishing and resonant performance by Gibson, who spends most of the movie playing two simultaneous characters, often in the same shot.
The Improper Bostonian - 9/10 by Sean BurnsIt doesn't quite work, but it does provide something of a cinematic exorcism for the public's increasingly conflicted relationship with Gibson.
The Mercury - 9/10 by Tim MartainAside from having a title that turns me into a puerile, sniggering teenager every time I talk about it, The Beaver is a heartbreakingly good movie.
Florida Times-Union - 9/10 by Matt SoergelThey seem like a real family, beaver puppet and all. And 'The Beaver' gives them the dignity they deserve in their troubled times.
Shared Darkness - 9/10 by Brent SimonOff-screen Mel Gibson may be a deplorable human being, but he and The Beaver, a film honest about depression and lined with a certain bruised grace, are uniquely suited to one another.
Film Journal International - 9/10 by Rex RobertsAn incongruous mix of fable and realism, giddiness and gloom, The Beaver gnaws off more than it can chew, but Mel Gibson's earnest performance and Jodie Foster's able direction shore up the dam.
Slate - 9/10 by Dana StevensIf you continue to be fascinated by this talented, volatile, messed-up man, it's worth experiencing what may be Gibson's finest performance to date.
Reeling Reviews - 9/10 by Robin Clifford...a character study of depression and mental illness that does not preach and says a lot about the human spirit, even though the star is a beaver.
