Common Sense MediaHeather BoernerRollicking Old West ride lassos some stereotypes.
Chicago Sun-TimesRoger EbertThe story is simple and obvious, but it's told with a lot of energy, and the cast is jammed, with character actors doing their things.
New York TimesRichard EderWalt Disney started by making movies in which animated drawings played the parts of people or animals who stood for people. Later he turned to making movies in which people or animals play the parts of animated drawings. They bound, they double-take, they simper when moved and quack when angry. Their disasters—crashes, plunges through space, explosions—are weightless. The Apple Dumpling Gang is a fair example.
Austin ChronicleMarjorie BaumgartenThis comic Disney Western is at its best when Don Knotts and Tim Conway are onscreen as the bumbling bandits who try to steal from a bunch of orphans. Few people remember anything about this movie apart from the hilarity generated by this scene-stealing duo.
User ReviewBrian BThough the movie centered more on Bixby and the kids, Knotts and Conway were a great team. They never fail to deliver the laughs when they're together.
User Review*Anna*Marie* STHis is one of the best movies I have seen!
User ReviewNate TWell done western family fare. Followed by a few sequels and other pairings of the stars.
User ReviewMichael SAs a kid, and a geeky fan of The Incredible Hulk, it was always cool to see Bill Bixby as gambler Russell Donovan. Even though Don Knotts and Tim Conway own the film. Susan Clark, Harry Morgan, David Wayne and Slim Pickens round out an awesome supporting cast. Look for Batman voice actor Olan Soule - so it's a Batman-Hulk team-up! This is a hilarious, wacky movie!
User ReviewJody EI love this movie, Bill Bixbe was great! He was a great actor and will be greatly missed by all who loved him.
User ReviewJeffrey HLove this movie. I remember seeing it at Keller when I was a little kid. I was amazed to find this on DVD and ecstatic to add it to my collection
