Movie Reviews

Black Girl Nerds - 8/10 by Leonardo FaiermanA tolerance for Strange Frame's unique animation style is probably required for most viewers, but they'll discover a smart, characterful story about love, music, rebellion, and fascism, enthusiastically performed and one-of-a-kind.
Movie Dearest - 7/10 by Fr. Chris CarpenterAn undeniably stylish and ambitious animated sci-fi film. The character animation is colorful but stiff and video game-like, which can be irritating, while the environments and backgrounds are often stunning.
User Review - 10/10 by Rich SThis film is like no other. They've created a whole new vision of humankind's future but deal with lots of timeless issues such as exploitation, greed, love and prejudice. The film is full of original music which makes it worth the price alone but the artwork is also vivid and unique. Worth watching if any of the themes remotely interest you or even for the music alone.
User Review - 10/10 by Brandon SThis movie is stunningly visual the mood and tone is so unique I've never been a fan of any kind of animation but this movie certainly has awakened a new passion in me for more!
User Review - 10/10 by Kara DWeird and wonderful, but only the truly fortunate can frame the beauty of this strange movie, some people will be expecting PIXAR?s vanilla storytelling and will be disoriented. Those who have taken psychedelics will be pleased.
User Review - 8/10 by Shaena Jthe context of this story was good. it was about a type of everyday life about two lovers. it was a good way for gay people to express themselves and i hope they feel more open to show the way they are. in this movie, the contour lines are amazing. the 3d shapes were really organized and looked so real. most of the characters in the movie was non-representational because the characters were odd looking. only a few were actually representaional but it was pretty cool to see the way people will probably look in the future. i really enjoyed the colors, especially the bright colors of the girls hair-Naia's girlfriend. the iconography of the video was easily seen for me because i knew it was about the future and how the world will be and look.
User Review - 8/10 by Levi M"Strange Frame" is a digitally animated film in which two lesbian lovers are separated in a scheme of corporate greed and corruption. Naia and Parker are lesbian musicians determined to make it "to the top" together - until the proverbial monkey wrench is thrown into their plans. The film features stylized characters and environments, as well as unique color usage that the viewer can almost taste. A unique visual texture is imbued into elements such as character hair and liquids, with nearly every scene containing a double-take-worthy image. Contextually, I imagine that the film is commenting on a dilemma that nearly every artist - and person - faces: "Am I willing to sacrifice who I am to achieve personal success?" This sentiment is very uniquely served by G.B. Hajim's personal style and art direction. "Strange Frame" is an interesting and inspiring picture that I am proud to say was actualized in my hometown of Hilo, Hawaii. Recommended!
User Review - 8/10 by Robert FOne line summary: Lush voices, fine music, good story, hideous visuals. ------------------------------------- Naia is a singer, Parker a saxophone player. They made good music together until they encountered Dorlan Mig, who drugged both of them. He threw out Parker, and denied her access to Naia. Parker barely manages to keep her best saxophones. She eventually meets Grenman, the all-around fixit man on a space ship. This gives her a safe home and friends. However, the ship's onboard AI is going psycho, and is sabotaging the ship. It's the late 28th century, and humanity lives mostly off Earth: Mars, the Jovian satellites, large asteroids, and places further out, rather like in Cowboy Bebop. There is a war among the various planets, satellites, space stations, and asteroids. AI and robotics are enormously further along than on 21st century Earth. Parker sells one of her saxes to help pay the bills on Grenman's ship. She investigates her former band. She takes the bass of the player Atem, who abandoned it and his clothes. Parker promises to give the bass to Atem if she finds him. She meets Chat, another band member, and tries to figure what Dorlan did with Naia. She attends one of Naia's current shows, takes recordings, feels the singing with her singer's sense.. Parker becomes quarter owner of the ship, and the crew sets about to help her to kidnap the 'fake' Naia. Will Parker succeed in rescuing the real Naia? Will the captain succeed in regaining complete control of his ship from the AI? Will Dorlan get his just reward? -------Scores--------- Art: 4/10 Terrible. Ugly. An assault on the eyes. A festival of hideous images. Sound: 10/10 Voices and incidental music were fine. Voicing: 10/10 Claudia Black was brilliant, Ron Glass excellent. Screenplay: 10/10 A touching and inventive story set in the Cowboy Bebop like future environment.
User Review - 4/10 by Jeremy WI wanted to see this one, but was pretty disappointed. It didn't flow like a movie should. It was a series of music videos that were not amazing. The style of the animation was neat. (Think flash animations in the early 2000s). The movie needed to be a little more congruent and have a bit more substance.
