When rich Jack Talbot falls in love with Rose Kirby, a common girl, fearing his mother's disapproval, he does not marry her. Rose later marries Clyde Bainbridge, a rotter who knows that, under the terms of a secret contract, Rose will inherit the Talbot iron-works.
