Full Plot Details

In Tokyo, a minister of public works is rumored to be taking evidence of corruption to a reporter: the CIA, the yakuza, and others want to grab the information and use it to squeeze the government. On the subway trip to meet the reporter, the official is murdered, but it looks like a heart attack. However, no one, including the murderer, can find the flash drive with the evidence. Now the CIA, gangsters, and the city police are searching. The dead official's daughters are in danger: the shadowy John Rain, ex-special forces and perhaps now in league with North Korea, tries to stay one step ahead as he looks for the flash drive and protects one of the daughters.

It's about government secret info between CIA and a former Amercian Japanese soldier (assassin). Good storyline and great filming. Editing was good too but I think they can make the movie even more shocking with more surprises and actions. A good Japanese movie in a Hollywood style.

The action-thriller part of the movie (the first 2/3 of film) is executed very well. Good acting, suspenseful plot, and outstanding cinematography. There are multiple storylines of different people/groups looking for a memory stick--it has the potential to quickly get confusing, but is clear, organized well, and logical. The last 1/3 of the film is largely the falling action. It could be left out or truncated, without much loss to the overall storyline. But it's a nice coast down to the conclusion that's quite unique to Asian films.

BORING!!!!!! Gary Oldman never comes outta his CIA room and Kippei Shiinaâ??s assassin or whatever John Rain intensely squints and stares his way through one heckuva dull performance. I was hoping for a little action, but what I got was the doldrums. VF.
