User Review - 10/10 by Michael TI honestly had never heard of this movie before I saw it the other night on TCM. I'm not a huge June Allyson fan, always playing the teary 'swell' girl-next-door to the extreme. But in this movie she was enchanting and it worked. But what really hooked me was Marsha Hunt. What a beautiful woman and great actress she was. The supporting female cast is also excellent, especially the whimsical Marie Windsor and the sultry Katherine Balfour. Jose Iturbi plays essentially himself perfectly along with Durante and a cast of well-known character actors. I did not think the ending was predictable, was surprised and shed a happy tear at the end. The music and the character interaction were great. O'Brien may have been a tad over the top, but it still worked better than had she been more low-keyed. Seriously considering buying the DVD.
User Review - 8/10 by David OVery endearing fare with June Allyson and little Margaret O'Brien teaming up as they did in my favorite version of Little Women. This has some wonderful examples of love and faith as the war is going on and an orchestra turns into mostly ladies. June Allyson's cello playing character is pregnant and her husband is at war..her little sister is a bright spot in her life. Good Movie!
User Review - 6/10 by jay nA predictable but pleasant little piece of fluff about a pregnant cellist whose husband is away in the war. Movies like this aren't usually my cup of java and I'm not a fan of any of the major players, but I stumbled onto it and for some strange reason got into it. Could have been the music...the symphony in which Allyson's character plays performed pieces from the likes of Beethoven, Mozart and Handel, and Jose Uturbi, who plays the symphony conductor, performs some beautiful piano pieces. A nice little tiimewaster.
User Review - 6/10 by Trent MAnother odd appearance by Jose Iturbi as himself (see also: Anchors Aweigh) Margaret O'Brien is almost irritatingly precious, but ultimately bearable. Jimmy's a hoot, but some of his numbers can go on beyond the point of entertaining. And I can't stand to see June Allyson looking on the verge of tears so I'm glad it all turns out okay in the end (all thanks to Saint Christopher???) The supporting cast of the women in the orchestra and the ex-con uncle work very well in this one. A cute little picture to be sure.
