An adventure drama that tells the story of Santiago, a 22-year old from Lima. Following his father's suicide, haunted by his inner daemons and hatred for the world in general, Santiago decides to escape the crude Lima winter to take refuge in Mancora, a beach to the north of Peru where it is always summer. Upon his departure, Santiago receives the unexpected visit from his stepsister, Ximena, a young and beautiful photographer in her late twenties, accompanied by her husband Inigo, a young surgeon from Spain. The three take off on a journey escaping reality and in search of themselves. Santiago and Ximena find refuge in each other, which sparks off jealousies within Inigo, and a trip that was intended to be a simple escape turns out to be much more, when each of the three crosses limits and borders they should never have crossed. The three are placed face to face with their dreams and daemons. "Mancora" is a story of redemption, where a kid becomes a man and learns to forgive the world.

L.A. WeeklyNicolas RapoldDespite dramatic pretenses, De Montreuil has essentially made a piece of sex-and-sun tourism cinema.
Filmcritic.comDon Willmottworth watching simply because it's full of (good-looking) people you'd never otherwise meet who take you to a place you'd never otherwise go
Los Angeles TimesGary GoldsteinAlthough sexy and scenic, the Peruvian road movie Máncora lacks the heart and soul required to fully invest in its central trio's free-floating journey of self-discovery.
User ReviewHelen MPelicula Peruana...Mancora, una playa bravaza
User ReviewChristine JHas the same feel of experimentation, sexual tension, quiet anxiety, and surrender of Y Tu Mama Tambien. Jason Day holds his own in this story about a 20-something young man escaping and leaving town to search for inner peace and closure after his father commits suicide.
User ReviewBruno PGood Movie. Great Music. Awesome Locations.
User ReviewShyam Hhas all the elements of a road movie - amazing landscape, surf, sex, drugs, beautiful people, a hitch hiker, and good music. It's on Netflix
User ReviewJennifer LWhat can I say? Spanish films rock, and this one definitely applies. Somebody else compared this to "Y Tu Mama Tambien?", and I guess that can be said, though I would definitely state this movie to be a an improvement over the previously mentioned film's bizarre antics. At times, I felt a little unaware as to where this movie was going and what was the point, but overall it was very entertaining and kept your attention. I truly wanted somebody to punch out the husband portrayed in this film-- his character made you wonder how she ever ended up with him.

User ReviewBillie WWoah, woah. Elsa Pataky. Never heard of her before this (or maybe I had), but all of a sudden the movie world...and probably the entire universe...revolves around her. A pretty decent actress, but simply incredible to look at. As for the movie, a nice Peruvian road flick. Maybe a bit pretentious, maybe a bit leaning on the beautiful people in the movie too much, but I liked the pacing and the story and the pretty sites (and the film says Hemingway used to live in the small town where they attend a party). The end was going for dramatic and then turned kind of Hollywood, so that's the only real mistake. As nice a watch as it is, it's also fairly superficial so an 8/10 is about as high as it could get with me.
