Examiner.comChris Sawin"Lawless" is the intense, bloody, and remarkable reminder that the best films of the year are right around the corner.
Orlando WeeklyJustin StroutLawless is everything that a film haunted by the likes of Faulkner and McCarthy should be: a Southern Gothic masterpiece that treats life and death more like a functional condition than a physical phenomenon.
Washington ExaminerKelly Jane TorranceThe genre of the Western is nearly as old as the medium itself... Lawless shows there are plenty of ways to modernize the category while still showing it respect.
Movies.comJeff BayerWhen you have the chance to see this film in August, pull the damn trigger.
BeliefnetNell MinowPearce, in gloves and slicked-down hair parted in the middle, is one of the best villains of the year.
HitFixGuy LodgeJohn Hillcoat's brisk, bloody and sharply appointed Prohibition thriller "Lawless" is the most immaculately barbered film in recent memory.
Midwest Film Journal Evan DosseyNot quite as great as Hillcoat & Cave's previous collaborations, but still a strong analyzation of damaged and violent men.
St. Paul Pioneer PressChris HewittIt's the tension-filled waiting that makes "Lawless" great.
ABC Radio BrisbaneMatthew ToomeyThe strong narrative will keep you interested. The graphic depiction of the violence also gives Lawless a heavy dose of realism.
Seven DaysRick KisonakThere's a reason nobody's made a motion picture about the Bondurant Boys before now. As ruthless, gun-toting gangs go, they're kind of on the snoozy side.
