Film Journal InternationalMaria GarciaWhile Madsen and his Dogme 95 colleagues seek to overcome Hollywood's influence, Kira's Reason is an indication that they are a product of the same patriarchy.
New York TimesStephen HoldenTying up the psychological loose ends of a movie that promised so much more, the trite ending subscribes to the bogus therapeutic notion that one good cry and a confession of vulnerability can wipe away a lifetime of repression.
Vue Weekly (Edmonton, Alberta)Brian GibsonAn incredibly touching ride along the jilting, jarring ups-and-downs of a deeply, madly loving relationship, where two people never quit trying, and failing, together.
Premiere MagazineLaine EwenStengade, in her first leading role, is at once vulnerable and frighteningly manic.
Village VoiceLaura SinagraDespite Kira's Reason's chamber-drama focus, it never achieves [Madsen's] first film's intimacy.
Apollo GuideDan JardineIts pat finale ill-befits a film that otherwise strives successfully for stark emotional realism.
New York PostLou LumenickStengarde gives an arresting performance as a mentally unstable woman.

User ReviewLeena LThis movie is about a manic depressive woman that no one around her (husband, sister, father, people in general) has any clue what she is about or why she does the things she does. If you really want to understand this movie I suggest watching the 1956 "Invasion of the Body Snatchers" and consider that everyone in this movie except Kira (Stine Stengade) is actually one of the "Pod People". The swimming pool scene is a case in point. The husband doesn't really like her at all, but sticks with her because the sex is so good (at least when she is manic). I only recommend this film to manic depressives because Pod People just won't get it. This is a Dogma 95 film. I always initially find the hand-held cameras irritating but I adjust as the film goes on. I do however very much like the natural lighting and the use of music only when it is actually part of the film (listening to radio for example). Netflix seems to think the film is in Danish - I think there is at least as much Swedish in this film as Danish and there is also some English. My favorite scene: When Kira wakes up in Malmö after a night of drinking in Copenhagen.
