Commercial Appeal (Memphis, TN)John BeifussThe film's lush locations -- the mossy forest with its prehistoric ferns, huge trees, rocky cliffs and misty waterfalls -- add not just production value but a sense of urgency and conviction to the smart script's subtle environmental message...
Ozus' World Movie ReviewsDennis SchwartzFans of slasher films should be drawn to the blood and gore that is so beautifully shot and is not as graphic as it could have been.
Reel Film ReviewsDavid Nusair...an exceedingly familiar premise that's been done countless times before...
User ReviewAleksandar ?Go now and find this 1980 gem. The first time I saw this it scared the crap out of me. It did for Camping what Psycho did for showers. The whistling really gets to you. I LOVE THIS MOVIE!!!
User ReviewDevin KOne of my favorite backwoods terror flicks of all time, JUST BEFORE DAWN even rivals TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE in my opinion. Solid acting, scenic, yet creepy locations, and a pair of inbred hillbilly twins that look like they could have been birthed by giant, man-eating hogs. Scary stuff...and that creepy whistle playing out during the haunting score is enough to send chills from head to toe. George Kennedy is great as the eccentric forest ranger - "Those mountains can't read, son". See this or SKIDOOT!;)
User ReviewTim BI didn't think I would like this movie but my friend let me borrow his copy and I loved it. It had a simple plot but I loved the way it was shot and it was creepy to no end plus that soundtrack will get you hooked from the start. This movie was awesome, I loved it.

User ReviewTim SOne of the best horror movies from the early 1980's. Just as atmospheric and eerie as when I first seen it over 30 years ago.
User ReviewRonald SWatching it again, I don't mind the look of the killer too much. It's different, which is always good. I love this flick. I don't understand why this isn't regarded as a classic up there with Halloween. Its really fucking good. My only complaint is the look of the killer, but its still creepy, well shot, fantastically directed, and with barely any horror cliche's to be seen. It takes the Halloween idea of what little is seen is scarier because of what you create in your mind. I love it. I'm in awe.
User ReviewTom Hcool slasher. surprisingly good. all though the quality of the film was shady to say the least, it focused my attention to the simple but great plot for a slasher film.
