CinePassionFernando F. CroceThe idea is the winnowing of guys-out-together exuberance for the self-loathing in it
User ReviewMarj RThis movie's just SOOOO AWESOME, an incredible show that totally kicks butt! It's got guns, mobsters, tapdancing, and roller skates, what else could you want???
User ReviewAndrew KIf you enjoyed the ice cream-on-celluloid that is "Singin' in the Rain", you will positively lap up "It's Always Fair Weather" - an unfairly criticized and underseen musical comedy. For pure surface entertainment, it doesn't get better than the Stanley Donen-Gene Kelly collaboration.
User ReviewHeather FOne of Gene Kelly's best films, it's also one of his darkest, built around themes of alienation and frustration. The cinematography and editing are groundbreaking, including masterful use of splitscreen. The production numbers also enter new territory, with a "rollerskate dance" that must be seen to be believed. All the key performances are fine, and the script is tight. Unfortunately, we never get to see Kelly and Cyd Charisse dance together (except in a deleted scene on the DVD).
User ReviewZoran SForget Singing in The Rain (well, ok, don't... it's pretty great), this is the best Kelly/ Donen musical. The dances are sublime and formally inventive and overall the film has much more of a melancholy tone than other musicals of its time. Also, I want to marry Dolores Grey in this movie.
User ReviewGregory SIf I had to recommend one film musical to someone who did not like musicals then this would be it. Aside form the fact that it's superbly crafted in every aspect but it avoids most of the cliche's associated with MGM musicals. For one thing its among the cynical musicals to ever come out of the studio system, second the whole 'randomly breaking into song' really doesn't become as apparent here as it does in other musicals because technically the film is so engrossing in its own reality you never question the song and dance breaks. One of the highest points in all musicals, and maybe all of cinema.
User ReviewLouise BThis is a cute story and a fun musical and it left me in a great mood! It's more about the plot which is odd for a musical, but the dances and songs are still top notch!! I loved it and I almsot didn't watch it because it came on very late on TCM. I'm glad I gave it a try!! The roller skating scene and I Like Myself song is just freaking awesome! I have to say that is the coolest dance scene I have ever seen in my entire life!! Dolores Gray was kind of a crappy actress but I'm assuming that was supposed to be her part, but her voice is so great! I'm kind of sad I haven't seen her in other musicals! The three guys have great chemistry together and the entire cast is just great! If you love Gene Kelly this is a must see!!! :)
User ReviewIan KI performed my first solo to "I like Myself" when I was 11 or 12, have been in love with the film ever since.
User ReviewDaijobu DO sea, "Siempre hace buen tiempo". Una de las mejores escenas de baile: trash can dance. Y las mejores piernas de la historia del cine: Cyd Charise.
User ReviewJaime BLove it..totally love it but as a Gene Kelly nut i will do...the I Like Myself routine on roller skates is truly magical and a show of just how talented Gene was...who else could pul off a routine like that by today's standard.
