Movie Reviews

Chicago Sun-Times - 10/10 by Roger EbertInteriors becomes serious by intently observing complex adults as they fend and cope, blame and justify. Because it illuminates some of the ways we all act, it is serious but not depressing; when it's over, we may even find ourselves quietly cheered that Allen has seen so clearly how things can be.
The A.V. Club - 8/10 by Josh ModellMuch of the first half of Interiors feels like a stage play, though one in which characters walk in and out of frame. That, along with the overly symbolic breaking of a vase, have earned Interiors some criticism for being too on the nose, which isn’t entirely unfair. But the rest of the movie is so starkly bold that it renders those problems insignificant. It’s beautiful, affecting, and exactly as jarring as Allen probably intended it to be.
EmanuelLevy.Com - 7/10 by Emanuel LevyOne of Allen's few pretentious films, this somber tale of one troubled WASPish family feels like a tribute to his mentor Ingmar Bergman, though as the two women who represent different subcultures Geraldine Page and Maureen Stapleton are excellent.
The New York Times - 6/10 by Vincent CanbyThough the movie looks beautiful, the elegant style occasionally works against it, showing it up. This happens in a striking close-up of Miss Keaton, sitting alone on a photogenically windswept ocean beach as she is supposed to be thinking sensitive poet-type thoughts. Yet the image is empty. It's not the actress. It's not the director, whose close-ups of Miss Keaton in Annie Hall burst with love, pride and affection. The movie that contains the image fails to invest it with any associations whatsoever.
Kalamazoo Gazette - 6/10 by James SanfordProbably the best of Allen's Bergman tributes
The Dissolve - 6/10 by Scott TobiasMuch of what’s great about Interiors comes from Allen writing a piercing drama, straight from the heart; much of what’s bad about Interiors come from his arid feints at duplicating a master.
Dispatch-Tribune Newspapers - 4/10 by Steve CrumDisturbing, well acted Woody Allen drama.
User Review - 10/10 by Panos TThe Interiors of the human soul navigated by master Woody.
User Review - 10/10 by Despina CKids were in bed early, husband away white water rafting: quiet house for once and a Woody flick. Just like the old days... I'm sure this coincidental circumstance won't happen again for a while.
User Review - 10/10 by Michael HDetached yet brutal. Sleek, sterile exteriors with haunting and savage 'Interiors' in all the characters. This is one of my favorite films by Woody Allen w/ one of the best performances captured on screen by 'The first Lady of the American Theatre' Geraldine Page - who knows all too well how to, bring it in, & play in front of a camera as well. She holds her face up proud and her composure for as long as she's able, then it contorts, crumbles and falls into a million pieces. Diane Keaton role feels like forced Allen writing, but other than that this film is perfect. No music, just guts.
