Ozus' World Movie ReviewsDennis SchwartzA dim-witted exploitation 1950s high school drama about the pressure of joining an all-girl gang.
User ReviewGreg WA nice little cult gem, though the dialogue, acting and story are dodgy it has heart and God bless they try. The direction is very staid and directionless but saying that must of these films are but I guess that's why we love them.
User ReviewAlexandra WSo this movie starts out strong--a fabulously dressed '50s girl gang sitting around plotting whom to initiate next (and the sullen one throws a switchblade against the wall) and then a ridiculous title sequence featuring a chalk board and some swingin' music and then a classroom scene in which the girl gang tortures their hapless male Home Ec sub by making a lot of puns and throwing things. But then Lame-O Heroine Girl comes along, and then the movie's about her rebelling against her white-bread, conservative family and getting a lame boyfriend. Then, halfway through, the leader of the girl gang dies by falling down like 4 steps, and it's all downhill into a lame mystery from there. But Sullen Switchblade Girl becomes the leader of the pack and gets to brandish her switchblade quite a bit and wear very boldly striped blouses, among other awesome '50 apparel. On a related note, none of these girls looked half bad ass enough. They were all wearing pretty conservative sweater sets and below-the-knee skirts that weren't even that tight. I was expecting stuff more along the lines of the cover art. No dice. They all looked more like Sandy than Rizzo, that's for sure.
User ReviewTodd LGoofy 50's film about a new girl in school who ends up a part of a girl gang called the "Hellcats." It's from AIP (makers of the Beach Party movies). It pretends to be a cautionary tale but really was just trying to draw in the teen audience with a story about rebellious youngsters. It's silly fun.
