Movie Reviews

AV Club - 7/10 by Mike D'AngeloMumford and O’Leary struggle to make sense of their characters, but are stymied by a script that regards them primarily as mouthpieces for talking points that, again, aren’t even the points anyone’s using when talking about drone warfare.
WBAI Radio - 6/10 by Prairie MillerWhen horror movies and history meet. And with a disturbing and discomforting persistent dread, Drones is in no way standard entertainment, nor should it be. Or as Dirty Wars doc director Jeremy Scahill solemnly observed, 'You can't surrender to a drone.'
Examiner.com - 5/10 by Travis HopsonWhile Rick Rosenthal's Drones has the balls to attack the issue head on, the lack of nuance in tackling a complex issue undermines his efforts and that of a game cast.
Variety - 4/10 by Dennis HarveyA middling real-time thriller that chronicles a fictive crisis for two Air Force personnel, who find themselves at loggerheads when they spot an apparent terrorist thousands of miles away on surveillance video.
User Review - 10/10 by Daniel WVery accurate movie of the UAV community. Very over dramatized though and not accurate about chain of command. Enjoyed it.
User Review - 8/10 by JohnnyLee TDrone Warfare or Video Games? Powerful, gripping drama with faultless acting from Mumford and O'Leary. SPOILER. The "iron" is only dropped when for Mumford it becomes personal. Okay, so O'Leary's role reversal isn't totally convincing, but this is a drama about ideas and the positions people take to adjust to their situations. And of course we are left to wonder was the target a terrorist? Cannot understand film's low rating on RT.
User Review - 6/10 by Nathaniel BLow budget? No problem. Rick Rosenthal's film about Sue and Jack, two drones pilots manoeuvring their unmanned military vehicles across the plains of Afghanistan in search for terrorists, find a primary suspect but also find themselves having to come to terms with their conscience. Ninety per cent of this thriller takes place in a Hitchcockian restrictive setting of an unbearably bunker from where the pilots control the drones and where Rosenthal and scriptwriter Matt Whitten explore the dangers of the advancement of technology in warfare and the chilling reality of a remote-control conflict. Its cleverness makes this apparently restrictive thriller far superior from most of the other higher budget films of the same kind, while its theatrical dialogue is a great showcase for the two leads Eloise Mumford and Matt O'Leary. Although it also shows occasional signs of weakness and obviousness, Drones is tense and thrilling but also ambitious in its aim and execution.
User Review - 4/10 by Ken LWhile I like real time storytelling, this was a bit contrived and contained the most objectionable ending without any real reason.
User Review - 4/10 by Jordon JThe movie maintained good pacing throughout as well as a strong sense of realism. I feel this film will be controversial for many, as it raises a number of questions about drone strikes currently being used by the military....
User Review - 4/10 by Anand KI'm sure this movie set out to raise and deal with a particularly difficult issue about war, killing and killing innocents. Not sure it fully addressed it, but there is some drama and suspense in this portrayal.
