Kept on a short leash through a volatile mixture of indoctrination, misinformation and fear, three grown-up siblings--two sisters and one brother--find themselves confined to their lavish, isolated villa. As a result, holed up in their beautiful, high-walled prison, the siblings rely on their cold, manipulative parents to learn about the ways of the world, taking reality-defying lessons from instructional cassette tapes. And, as the cruel patriarch and his frigid wife deliberately keep their unsuspecting, submissive children in the dark, freedom is nothing but a word. Then, a bad influence in the shape of security guard Christina enters the equation, and suddenly, sweet, baffling temptation threatens years of meticulous mind-programming. Is the grass greener on the other side of the fence? With this in mind, how can an ordinary dogtooth stand in the way of happiness?

Movie Reviews

The A.V. Club - 10/10 by Scott TobiasIt's an exhilaratingly unpredictable experience, and not an easy one to shake.
Time Out - 10/10 by Joshua RothkopfHow perfectly perverse: In a summer crammed with sequels, remakes, '80s nostalgia and the frustrated sense of "What else y'got?" comes the most original nightmare in years.
Chicago Reader - 10/10 by J.R. JonesDogtooth, a bizarre black comedy from Greece that won the Un Certain Regard prize at the 2009 Cannes film festival, involves a conventional middle-class family--mom, dad, teenage son, two teenage daughters--that turns out to be warped beyond belief.
Quickflix - 10/10 by Simon MiraudoDogtooth is one of the funniest films of the past 12 months, an unforgettable social-satire, a devious little test of endurance for brave movie-lovers and the best argument against home-schooling since The Jonas Brothers.
Toronto Star - 10/10 by Peter HowellThis is the second feature for Lanthimos, and it's a leap from his well-received debut Kinetta. He skilfully doles out tantalizing pieces of information, keeping the viewer in a constant state of suspense and wonder.
Metromix.com - 10/10 by Matt PaisA remarkable depiction of paranoia gone amok ... a devastating metaphor for the way that everyone's preparation for the world has something to do with the way they're raised.
Film4 - 10/10 by Catherine BrayOne of the most surprising, entertaining and eccentric films released this year.
Movies for the Masses - 10/10 by Joseph Proimakisclick to read the full review on Movies for the Masses
MTV - 10/10 by Kurt LoderWhen it's over, we want to put it behind us. It just won't stay there.
Filmcritic.com - 9/10 by Chris CabinOf the many positive aspects of Dogtooth, the fact that Lanthimos uses imagery and insinuations to build his narrative is the most prominent
