User Review - 10/10 by Iszac Ri think Coonskin is a amazing movie but its not a kids movie its rated R and has lots of swearing is very vilonte and has uncensored nudity
User Review - 10/10 by Sebastian TAnother great Bakshi animated feature. It's super sociological and political like his others and caused quite a stir when it came out. Idiots lke Al Sharpton made ignorant assumptions about the content of the film being racist without even seeing it in the first place. Anything that pisses that guy off makes me happy and besides, Barry White does one of the voices!
User Review - 10/10 by Isaac BSaid what few filmmakers before or since were willing to say.
User Review - 10/10 by RØgers CPoetic, groundbreaking and beautiful. It's a sham more people don't appreciate this masterpiece.
User Review - 10/10 by Keenan SThis is film that deals with the issue of racism and crime, and like other Bakshi films, it's batshit crazy, which is why it's so enjoyable to watch. This is a film that feels like Bakshi is releasing his frustrations and opinions after doing a shitload of drugs because this utterly surreal. However, it does get its messages across, no matter how strange it gets.
User Review - 10/10 by Deven WJust like "Heavy Traffic" before it, this is Ralph Bakshi at his most offensive and unadulterated -- he has officially become one of my favorite filmmakers. It takes a true genius to notice how cleverly interspersed the animation is with some of the live-action elements, and how stock footage often gets intercut.
User Review - 10/10 by Jon EThis feature is Ralph Bakshi's masterpiece. Coonskin is a sort-of Goodfellas meets Sweet Sweetback's Badasssss Song. It's the sort of film that demonstrates that black people are as capable of forming a fascist movement the same way as whites are. I'd recommend this movie (if you're 18+ that is)
User Review - 10/10 by Anthony IThe name alone is worthy enough to avoid. Make no mistake, this is the most racially provocative picture since "Birth of a Nation", and a million times more uncomfortable than "Do the Right Thing". But what audiences don't realize is that this movie might be the strongest advocate of black acceptance in American society you'll ever see. Beneath all the disgusting images you'll have to look at, there is a beautiful message about the evils of racism and ignorance. Ralph Bakshi certainly beat Spike Lee and Quentin Tarentino to the punch with this concept. I highly recommend seeing this movie, on bootleg or YouTube. There really is truly nothing like it.
User Review - 10/10 by Jake Ci think Coonskin is a amazing movie but its not a kids movie its rated R and has lots of swearing is very vilonte and has uncensored nudity
User Review - 10/10 by Mister CGroundbreaking as it was when it premiered in 1975,this was also very controversial. Set in the gritty streets of Harlem during the 1970's, this was crazy animation at the next level and this went way beyond Bakshi's previous works with a hint of Disney's "Song of the South" complete with stereotypes and all of the above. Complete with gangsters, drugs, and the mafia along with the rest of the crew. Could you believe that one of the biggest R&B singers of his day Barry White chose to do voicework for this? He did along with Scatman Crothers in this masterpiece of animation cimema.
