Film ScoutsJason GorberLong, introspective, indulgent cinema is certainly here to stay - let's try for something a little, well, better.
Film Freak CentralBill Chambers...A gem well hidden on video store shelves beneath artwork that makes it look like a quick cash-in on the success of What Lies Beneath.
Reel Film ReviewsDavid Nusair...a wonderfully creepy riff on Polanski's Repulsion...
User ReviewHae MA disquieting little gem featuring great work from Daniels. Owes a bit to Eraserhead and Polanski's Repulsion. The single-location setting could be limiting, but writer/director Walker includes enough incident and some tremedously creepy hallucination scenes to maintain tension and interest. I recommend this to anyone looking for a good creepy flick. Shows what a talented filmmaker can do with very little in terms of budget and resources.
User ReviewRalf WUnbelievably trippy flic. I often wonder, if I am the only one who wanders around in his sub-conscious mind.
User ReviewPamela OJeff Daniel's is brilliant in this psychological suspense film.
User ReviewGeno PeppinoJeff Daniels is an incredibly under-rated actor. Having performed brilliantly in wide array of roles, from "Dumb and Dumber" to "2 Days in the Valley", Daniels stands out. The same is true for this bizarre and disturbing movie. Ironically, I first saw it at 3:00am while battling insomnia. In my opinion, that's the best way to see this one.
User ReviewElise HChasing Sleep is the type of movie that you rarely see nowadays. With its creepy scenes and witnessing a man's delusional demise, it is up to the audience to pick this film apart and decide what has actually happened. It can be interpreted in many ways. Are the visions of manifestations of his own unjustified guilt? Is it because of the pills? Does he only think that he's not sleeping or is he simply denying what he may have horribly done? You decide. It's sad that a lot of people don't seem to get the point of this movie or even want to turn their brains on enough to try to make sense of it. Otherwise, this movie is worth a watch.
User ReviewErin KA man's descent into madness; very well written I thought. Jeff Daniels was quite good, there were a couple of times where you could really believe that he had no idea what was going on, or maybe even where he was. I would like to see it again without commercials though!!
User ReviewJason DGreat subtle, chilling tale about a college professor (Daniels) who wakes up to find his wife never came home from work. What follows is a character study of a man's inner deterioration of his very mind as he struggles to learn what happened to her while fighting with visions that come about within his very house. Things get more complicated when people like a lovestruck student and the wife's secret boyfriend show up to the house to cause more trouble. This is a great film worth watching.
