Monthly Film BulletinMFB CriticsA somewhat stale farce, mixing slapstick, caricature and crudely anatomical humour, puts life in a public hospital ward into the same cheerlessly rollicking category as the barrack-room.
User ReviewTracey csidney james a mega fan love all hes movies.
User ReviewRob LThe first in the `Carry on...` series set in a hopital, and the one that made Jacques famous as the formidable matron. This is up there as one of my all time favourite `Carry on...` films, with some fantastic and simple comedy moments. And no matter how many times I see this film I laugh everytime. Kenneth Willimas is great in a more straight laced performance for him in a `Carry on...` film. But it`s Charles Hawtrey who steals the show with his obsession of listening to the radio, laughing at things we cannot hear and playing imaginary instruments as he mimes to classical music. And let`s not forget a mention for Sims as the accident prone nurse who just can`t seem to get it right. All in all a fantastic `Carry on...` full of what has become the typical `Carry on...` chaos so many of us have come to know and love.
User ReviewLyndall MTHE CARRY ON GANG ARE AT THERE BEST IN THIS ONE.SIT BACK AND RELAX,YOUR STOMACH WILL HURT BY THE TIME THIS ONE IS OVER
User ReviewKarsh DThe operation scene is the cherry on the top of this delicious offering. Still has me laughing out loud now
User ReviewJohn DSome of the early ones are actually quite good.
User Reviewmirabella 1All of the Carry On films get 4 or 5 stars from me. They have been a much-loved part of my life ever since I can remember.
User ReviewRobin HHilarous romp about men awaiting surgery in a british hospital, sexual urges arouse for the men to ding dong a nurse. Good acting, and belivble dialouge make this a rather camp comedy. There is also a sub plot romance between Ted (Terrance Longdon) and Nurse Denton (Shirley Eaton) who is leaving for a hospital in America.
User ReviewBill TOddly enough, just like Carry On Sergeant, the cast (which is, in large part, the same as the first), won me over with it's heart, when it really shouldn't. Essentially just a series of short gags set in a hospital. Hardly any character development. But this works. Why? Maybe it's just because noone is wasted, all the characters are interesting. Nothing lke ths could be pulled off today.
User ReviewStuart MThe best of the early, Balck & White Carry Ons, very little sauce, but still a great film. Ding Dong, you're not wrong!
