The "Summer Camp" horror trilogy was one of the most popular franchises of the 1980s. However, the decade ended and so did director/writer Julian Barrett's career. Now Barrett has a plan to resurrect "Summer Camp" in a modern reboot that entails using a reality show as its template and source of fundraising. Should it succeed Barrett would once again be at the helm. Bringing together an eclectic group of young "contestants" as well as his former stars Rachel Steele and John Hill, Barrett seems to have put together a sure fire recipe for success. Then people start dying. For real. And "elimination" takes on a whole new meaning as "Dead.tv" clearly shows the slasher film has grown up.
Leave your thoughts about Camp Dread.
We Got This CoveredMatt DonatoBeing a low-budget rendition of 80s campfire slashers isn't necessarily a bad thing as long as you have enough of your own creative ideas, like Camp Dread does.
User ReviewCarlos IThis low budget 80s campground horror film finds the campers competing against each other to survive till the end for 1,000,000$ payoff. With maybe a handful of decent kills, Camp Dread is pretty forgettable with its dismal and contrived story with bland music and cheap cinematography. This by the numbers campy slasher film couldn't even be saved by the promise of Eric Roberts, Danielle Harris or Felissa Rose.
User ReviewAzeem HNice twist preceded by a very average and at times direly scripted hour and a half.
User ReviewHarry VUnfortunately this was a complete waste of 90 minutes. The narrative was too predictable and felt weak overall. The dialogue was poor, and the ending was almost comedic. The editing wasn't great, there were many unnecessary cuts etc. and finally, the actors performances could have been better. At no point during the film did i feel like i made a connection with the characters, or anything that was happening. There was always some sort of mistake, or bad dialogue distracting me from becoming fully immersed. Alongside this, the way the film was shot and cut made me feel lost and disjointed. I do not recommend this film.
