easternKicks.comHarris DangBlind Detective is an ambitious Johnnie To entry that can wildly entertain as well as polarize people, but for those who can handle the tone shifts and the overacting will have a lot of fun. Just don't watch this film on an empty stomach.
Film School RejectsShaun MunroA daring if totally misguided hybrid of two very different films that may suffice for the director's fans, though will likely be remembered as a sloppy curio farce above all else.
Slant MagazineJordan CronkTo's ambitious amalgam of comedic trappings and grisly crime analysis is just odd enough to remain of interest.
User ReviewDerek Jlove the chemistry between Andy and Sammi!! :))) I did laugh out loud several times..
User ReviewViet Phuong NSo many brilliant twists, yet so many nonsense crappy jokes. Still, the bleakness and wittiness still make this film a decent To-Wai product. A little bit too much for the Western audience, though. Still, a good opportunity for them to realize that To is not all about stylish action and dark comedy but also about nonsensicalness and karmic vision. This is Running on Karma meets Mad Detective, if only Sammi Cheng can be ten years younger...
User ReviewAdriano BProbably could have used more polishing, but, in truth, it doesn't need that either: when you think CSI has said all there was to say to the point of being tiresome, Johnnie To take the formula, mix it with Scent of a woman and come up with a madcap black comedy uneven but fresh, full of lovely lunatics and beatiful women used as pungin'ball. That's madcap!
User ReviewNikhil MJust imagine Sherlock Holmes as a blind sleuth who is Chinese and solves cases in Hong Kong and you will get what Blind detective is about. The direction along with the script also seems to be inspired by other Sherlock Holmes recent adaptations.
User ReviewIssac La witty mixture of multiple genres and its exhilarating plot with twists outshine its shallow characters big time (y)
User ReviewWeng SI have always enjoyed movies by the great Johnnie To, and this was no exception. My only gripe was that it very quickly turns from slapstick to serious thriller. Nice to see Macau being utilized more and more in Hong Kong movies, although To is no stranger to using the island for so many of his previous movies. Blind Detective good entertainment, but nothing lost by seeing it on the small screen.
User ReviewEmmanuel FInteresting cop story with romantic twist.
