User ReviewDJ JGave it a 5 because i'm a true fan of movies with twists...and it really delivered, even the choice of songs throughout the movie. Devil in his Heart by The Donays is the only song in my opinion that could have been played at the parts it was played at, perfect song choice...perfect minor story...perfect twist...
User ReviewMaria CNo one ever gives these kind of movies enough credit! Did you ever think maybe you have just seen too many movies and can now predict what happens before it does? It is inspired by The Shining by Stephen King and I think Director Chad Feehan does quite a good ob living up to such a legend...
User ReviewGermana AI liked this movie, even though I think the begining was not strong enough and some moments were too familiar, taking into consideration all the other movies placed at creepy hotels with awkward hosts. However, I loved Josh Stewart ating, as well as the original idea of the script. I also loved the end and I think most of the people just did not understand it, so they did not liked it.
User ReviewVitaliy SJust curious how to end up in such place like this motel or does it really exist beyond the dark?
User ReviewRyan WTo put it simply, this film delivered! Beneath The Dark gives you a nice mind scramble for the majority of the film, but manages to keep you curious the whole time. Very nice acting by Josh Stewart, it wasn't hard to believe his paranoia. Anyway this movie deserves far more attention than i'm sure it will get. Give it a chance and i think you'll enjoy!!!
User ReviewJeanna BNot really sure how i feel about this movie. The acting was not especially great and the plot was at times unclear. It had the normal suspense of any movie of its kind with no real climax. But as you get to the end of the movie it became surprising interesting and really begin to understand the hidden message. At the very end i was left unsure and i have to admit i had to watch the last 20 mins over again to really understand what the movie was all about. Normally i do not like a movie where that happens but in this case i really appreciated what the director did. You had to really think and draw a conclusion for yourself. all and all i thought it was a very smart and well written/directed thriller. i would recommend it to those who like deep hidden meaning flicks.
User ReviewDavid DDidn't expect much, got a lot. Huge twist, well developed story, well done.
User ReviewJamie BThis thing gets bad reviews everywhere, which kind of surprises me. I'm going to guess that it is a matter of either it not delivering enough "horror" for those coming into the movie (for either jump scares or gore), or the moralizing is too strong. Regardless what the reason is, I found Beneath the Dark to be an engaging, thought-provoking experience. The "twist" is easy to see coming--though they are masking it from the main character more than the viewer. Most people should see where the movie is headed--I saw it coming about 10 minutes before the twist happened--I suspect most people will see it coming long before then. But in this case, while the twist is important, guessing it beforehand doesn't really make the impact of the final few minutes in any way because the true importance of the end is not in the twist, but in the character and his decisions. Then again, maybe everyone else reviewing has the right idea--maybe this movie does suck. Because it fumbles the most important part of any movie: the post-twist ending. It's not just the ending, though that is the element of the overall problem which is most obvious. But the script feels like it is in love with ambiguity. As such, certain things which should not be confusing ARE in fact confusing. At least for me. So much of the script feels so carefully constructed that these ambiguous segments really throw a wrench into the machine. After reading a couple of explanatory comments on IMDB's message board I can safely say now that "I get it", and I feel silly for having not seen it before. Yet the fact remains that even though everything is perfectly arranged in my head now (and even have the audacity to find it all rather brilliant), when the credits started to roll I was saying "What? WHAT?" But even then, everything else about Beneath the Dark engaged me so strongly I was fully prepared to rate this strongly.
User ReviewTasSos SIt s a totally different movie from Hostel... If you understand what is really going on.I enjoyed it.
User ReviewJacob PThe movie started out simple enough, 30 minutes into it, you're trying to figure out what's going on. 1 hour into it, you've figured it out and are disappointed with the direction it's headed. 90 minutes in, flips that assumption on it's head and finally the last 10 minutes, you never saw coming but are thoroughly gratified with the end result.
