User ReviewRyan PAn awesomely bad movie. Bad, and awesome, a Bad-Awesome sandwich. It might be one of the great fun-bad movies except that they take way too long to get to Abar getting his powers. Once it does it almost turns into a micro-budget blaxploitation version of El Topo!
User ReviewMatthew CShockingly bad acting, exceptionally low production values, and some seriously ham-fisted moralizing make this goof-ball movie a blast. The actors are wonderfully stiff. There are great sequences where the actors are clearly reading off cards. They didn't do retakes. Stumbling over dialog is common. And everyone is painted with the broadest of strokes. Everyone white is evil. Any black person who doesn't live in the ghetto is a sell out. It takes forever to get the 'Black Superman' element of the film, but when it happensâ?¦Well, not all that much changes. It's still a really poorly made film. But dang, it's entertaining.

User ReviewJab Bblack superman is black kryptonite. im not sure what that color of kryptonite does besides making me watch a horrible movie. overpreachy, hypocritical and sort of pretentious, there is not even a hint of supermanity until the end of the movie, where abar becomes black superman via potion (which is somehow then a gift from jesus). his solution to the ghetto is giving milk to hobos and sending pot smokers to college. black superman, if you send them to college, im betting theyre still going to be smoking pot. also, besides invunerability (the only superman like power he posseses) , he has some sort of psychic power that gets him to do all these things. so he is really more of a black conner kent superboy. too bad he isnt a black jason todd robin.
User ReviewDellise WA blaxploitation film of the turkey variation, however, too much of the already precious running time is spent on set-up and attempt of drama to make it a bona fide classic - surely the 'superman' element would have afforded much more fun. However, Abar proves to be entertaining nevertheless.
