EmanuelLevy.ComEmanuel LevyThree of MGM's gorgeous stars, Judy Garland, Lana Turner and Hedy Lamarr star in this musical, which has too much melodrama but also some lavish production numbers.
User ReviewAaron SThe MGM big-budget musical at its best. All the leading ladies are fabulous, glamorous, stunningly beautiful. Of course, any picture featuring the voice of Judy Garland can't be bad.
User ReviewKaren MSaw this movie for the second time now. Even better than the first! I love Lana Turner, James Stewart, Judy Garland, and Hedy Lamarr. Everyone of them were so young in this early movie. Fantastic sets in this beautiful film!
User Reviewsarah boooh I really like this movie it's got james stewart in it :] cute... and Judy Garland :)
User ReviewBarbara Ra truly beautiful movie. it's kind of funny that each of the female stars really brings out what thsis movie is mainly about, and therefore that is their best characteristic in the film. hedy represents the beauty, lana is the drama, and judy is the music (voice). i think this is the best out of the trio of ziegfeld movies made by mgm, because 1: it did the best, and 2: lana turner's acting in this was PERFECT, along with judy garland who was very young at the time, and hedy lamar. and when judy sings "minnie from trinidad" you know you can't help but dance, lol. an amazing movie, everyone should see it
User ReviewMari HWow, wow, wow! This is a new favorite. I loved the acting and story. Lana Turner is one of my favorites. She seems to have the Midas touch. Any movie she's in is gold.
User ReviewStefanie RGreat musical with 3 great stories of 3 girls in show business.
User ReviewTim CI saw this the other day on TCM and I thought it was a great backstage musical story from the 40s that was just fabulous! It is an interesting look at how fame changes things for someone, and not for the better. Still, it is nice to see Judy Garland sing and act, Lana Turner trying decide between glamor and squalor (not to mention rick millionaire or Jimmy Stewart), and Hedy Lamarr who is in between fame and her concerning husband. Ziegfeld is never seen or shown, and the numbers are fabulous and Ziegfeldian, but I thought he should have shown his face if not booked William Powell asap!
User ReviewSV GLots of Ziegfield razzamataz - original acts and a calvalcade of stars - James Stewar, Judy Garland and Hedy Lamar lead the way in this charming story of the lives of just a few of Ziegfield's girls. Lovely old songs and dance numbers.
User ReviewJax BI'm not going to lie - I was a little surprised at how depressing parts of this movie were - the inability to stop the disintegration of the lead. For the majority it was well acted - Lana Turner was excellent. My favourite scene is when the father gets a chance to do his number - super cute! It gets four stars for actually being an interesting drama - high points for musical interludes. Highly enjoyable and a very satisfying ending.
