Spirituality and PracticeFrederic and Mary Ann BrussatA vivid morality tale about the high cost of decadent narcissism.
User ReviewDiva SThis was one I saw on HBO years ago. It was absolutely incredible the stuff that goes on in this movie. Watch It.
User ReviewTony CThis is a brilliantly observed film. The painful ways in which the self-destructive bored rich (and wealth-seeking parasites) seek to amuse themselves plays off against the background of Kenya. Here, the arrogance of the 'ruling class' is portrayed in subtle yet powerful ways. In one scene a Kenyan servant is setting up targets for the Bwana to practice his shooting. He's almost killed when the Bwana lets off a shot before he's even walked away. Subtle yet devastating!
User ReviewPrivate UJolly ripping, true yarn brought to us from 1930's Happy Valley. Egad!
User ReviewStephen CI love this movie, would like to buy it.A tale of debauchery, murder and scandal based on a true story settled in colonial Africa at the times of World War II.
User ReviewDickie RThe movie depicts the typical life of the affluent colonial masters and their randy lifestyles. Good exposure of the ills of the 'Empire'.
User ReviewPaul DGreat expose of the contradictions of colonial life, (behaviour of the occupiers contrasted with the values they seek to impose on the occupied). Greta Scacchi the beautiful centrepiece of the plot.
User ReviewGrayson DAs an impressionable teen i was obsessed with Greta Scacchi having sat up watching this on a school night into the wee hours. It's still a well made film and Scacchi still looks as good to me.
User ReviewMike TSteamy film about decadent Brits in Kenya near the start of WWII.
User ReviewPeter PDistinctly underwhelming retelling of the murder of the Earl of Erroll in 1941 and the subsequent trial of his lover's husband.
