Movie Reviews

London Evening Standard - 10/10 by Derek MalcolmA new score by Irving Berlin also contributed to its marzipan popularity. But it's the title song that really produced lasting gold. That and the fake snow.
Commercial Appeal (Memphis, TN) - 8/10 by John BeifussSomething of a forced march, but worth seeing for its old-school studio vibrancy and for Curtiz's ability to compose for depth as well as breadth within the widescreen frame.
Movie Habit - 8/10 by Marty MapesThis slightly racy studio musical from 1954 isn't the holiday classic you might think
Kalamazoo Gazette - 8/10 by James Sanfordis it un-American to say this is a woefully overrated mediocrity?
New York Times - 8/10 by Bosley CrowtherDirector Michael Curtiz has made his picture look good. It is too bad that it doesn't hit the eardrums and the funnybone with equal force.
TIME Magazine - 8/10 by StaffA big fat yam of a picture richly candied with VistaVision (Paramount's answer to CinemaScope), Technicolor, tunes by Irving Berlin, massive production numbers, and big stars. Unfortunately, the yam is still a yam.
The Spectator - 8/10 by Virginia GrahamHowever, between the painful alpha and omega of this film there is a lot of extremely pleasant entertainment.
Times (UK) - 8/10 by Wendy IdeWhite Christmas is the cinema equivalent of an inappropriate festive snog under the mistletoe -- you know you probably shouldn't enjoy it but you just can't help yourself.
Radio Times - 8/10 by Tony SlomanKaye is superb, especially in his knockout dance routine with Vera-Ellen, and the direction from veteran Michael Curtiz rightly embraces the sentiment rather than keeping it at bay.
Apollo Guide - 8/10 by Brian WebsterAlthough it's really only peripherally about the Christmas season, White Christmas is still a holiday classic. And deservedly so.
