At first the war is a lark: school has closed, the violence is fascinating, getting from West to East is a game. His mother wants to leave; his father refuses. Tarek spends time with May, a Christian, orphaned and living in his building. By accident, Tarek goes to an infamous brothel in the war-torn Olive Quarter, meeting its legendary madam, Oum Walid. He then takes Omar and May there using her underwear as a white flag for safe passage. Family tensions rise. As he comes of age, the war moves inexorably from adventure to tragedy.

Spirituality and PracticeFrederic and Mary Ann BrussatIn this cross-cultural gem, we are touched as the characters struggle to keep their souls alive in the midst of war.
F5 (Wichita, KS)Jake EukerThis warm and very smart comedy is set against the backdrop of a war-torn city, like Hope and Glory's London. It's human and never stoops to sanctimony.
User ReviewMohammed AEvery One Who grew up during the lebanese war will understand it an amazing and simple movie. Crazy Beirut is crazy
User ReviewHenrietta AComing of age movie set in War torn Beirut very funny in places incredibly sad in others
User ReviewAaron LFinally, an Arab movie that doesn't resort to Arab stereotyping--probably in part that it plays more like a Middle Eastern version of a teen comedy, a la American Pie, except with more heart and mature humanity than the Jason Biggs, Stiflers of the world!* *the one scene where our protagonist gives his blunt opinions on Islamic, morning broadcast prayers!
User ReviewMarc-Antoine Dle film culte ! love it brings me back to my young days back in beirut.......
User ReviewNadia SIt's a good individual movie. Teenager actors with talents, full of humor, sadness of reality..etc
User ReviewSamih MGreat movie...does a good job in depicting the political (religious) turmoil the country went (going) through
User ReviewSamir GA story about teens in a war torn city trying to go about their lives as if the war around them is nothing but a background scene in a painting. Only later does it down on them that the background has rushed forward, and threatens to take from them the spotlight, to overshadow their lives in ways they (and us, the audience) will never forget. A powerfully under-toned movie with a simple message, and a simple delivery that is simply outstanding.
User ReviewHasan Sthat was a MIND BLOWING movie, im very very proud of the Lebanese Cinema!
