Full Plot Details

In a distant, but not so unrealistic, future where mankind has abandoned earth because it has become covered with trash from products sold by the powerful multi-national Buy N Large corporation, WALL-E, a garbage collecting robot has been left to clean up the mess. Mesmerized with trinkets of Earth's history and show tunes, WALL-E is alone on Earth except for a sprightly pet cockroach. One day, EVE, a sleek (and dangerous) reconnaissance robot, is sent to Earth to find proof that life is once again sustainable. WALL-E falls in love with EVE. WALL-E rescues EVE from a dust storm and shows her a living plant he found amongst the rubble. Consistent with her "directive", EVE takes the plant and automatically enters a deactivated state except for a blinking green beacon. WALL-E, doesn't understand what has happened to his new friend, but, true to his love, he protects her from wind, rain, and lightning, even as she is unresponsive. One day a massive ship comes to reclaim EVE, but WALL-E, out of love or loneliness, hitches a ride on the outside of the ship to rescue EVE. The ship arrives back at a large space cruise ship, which is carrying all of the humans who evacuated Earth 700 years earlier. The people of Earth ride around this space resort on hovering chairs which give them a constant feed of TV and video chatting. They drink all of their meals through a straw out of laziness and/or bone loss, and are all so fat that they can barely move. When the auto-pilot computer, acting on hastily-given instructions sent many centuries before, tries to prevent the people of Earth from returning by stealing the plant, WALL-E, EVE, the portly captain, and a band of broken robots stage a mutiny.

Movie Reviews

The Film Yap - 10/10 by Nick RogersSome found ecological undertones too scolding. But the question of what happens to trash is a nice undertone - never overshadowing the endlessly renewable entertainment of "WALL-E's" plucky protagonist & carefully, comically choreographed physical humor.
Empire - 10/10 by Olly RichardsTo call WALL•E Pixar's best film would potentially denigrate films that deserve no scorn. But this is their most ambitious undertaking since "Toy Story" and storytelling of such charm and visual wit that it can stand proudly alongside the studio’s best. Absolute heaven.
New York Magazine (Vulture) - 10/10 by David EdelsteinThe new Pixar picture Wall-E is one for the ages, a masterpiece to be savored before or after the end of the world.
Rolling Stone - 10/10 by Peter TraversYou leave WALL-E with a feeling of the rarest kind: that you've just enjoyed a close encounter with an enduring classic.
Newsweek - 10/10 by David AnsenOnce again, the Pixar wizards have pushed the animation envelope in unexpected directions and come up with a winner. Wondrously inventive, funny and poignant, WALL*E is part sci-fi adventure, part cautionary fable, part satire and part love story, which may be the best and most improbable part of all.
Time - 10/10 by Richard CorlissIt works; this is Pixar's most enthralling entertainment since "Nemo."
Los Angeles Times - 10/10 by Kenneth TuranDaring and traditional, groundbreaking and familiar, apocalyptic and sentimental, Wall-E gains strength from embracing contradictions that would destroy other films.
Boston Globe - 10/10 by Ty BurrThe best American film of the year to date.
The Globe and Mail (Toronto) - 10/10 by Liam LaceyMixing Chaplinesque delicacy with the architectural grandeur of a Stanley Kubrick film, director Andrew Stanton recycles film history and makes something fresh and accessible from it without pandering to a young audience.
Urban Cinefile - 10/10 by Andrew L. UrbanIn what must be a tongue in cheek nod to his Antipodean origins, writer/director Andrew Stanton has named the CEO of By N Large, Shelby Forthright (the only genuine human seen in the film)
