Leave your thoughts about Van Diemen's Land.
The AustralianDavid StrattonVan Diemen's Land poses a formidable challenge for audiences, but it's a challenge well worth meeting and a film you're unlikely ever to forget.
sbs.com.auSimon FosterThe Tasmanian landscape (and its stand-in Victorian equivalent) is a sight to behold in the 2:35 ratio. As the backdrop for acts of pure barbarism, it is a grey, horribly-beautiful vision of Hell.
MovieTime, ABC Radio NationalJason Di RossoThere's no doubting the premise held great high-concept horror possibilities, but the end result is surprisingly bloodless despite some close-range gore.
Electric SheepDavid CairnsIn its evocation of a bleak, hostile environment in which even the meanest cannot eke out an existence, it packs a bloody punch.
Courier Mail (Australia)Colin NewtonThe film is at times tasteless and unpalatable but the screenplay, based on four confessions Pearce gave after his capture, has a certain level of interest to it.
User ReviewTy PThis is the first Australian movie I've ever seen and its a very well made film and its filmed in the lovely land of Tasmania. the movie is kind of slow but non the less its one that i think some might enjoy and its another reason why i love foreign films so please check it out and tell me what you think of it
User ReviewJulien BMême rigueur dans la réalisation minimaliste que "Valhalla rising" ou "Aguirre". Quête mystique pour ce bagnard irlandais affamé.
User ReviewMatthew SVery slow and so naturalistic that it is almost devoid of the normal structure and nauances that you expect from a film. But that is exactly what makes this directoral debut so amazing to watch. The cast are really stretched to their limits in this uncompromising adaptation of a true story. Hard viewing, but well worth it - and one that I think will improve when seen again. Superb!
User ReviewByron BMany quite minutes in this movie, but I loved that. It left you feeling sick and thinking of the humankind a bit longer and that was needed, believe me. LOVED that they made a movie about Pearce.
User ReviewTom GAmong the best films I've ever seen. Herzogian as well.
