Full Plot Details

"Valley of Bones" is a nail-biting adventure thriller set in the oil-rich Badlands of western North Dakota. Anna, a single mother and paleontologist, and McCoy, a meth-addicted oil worker, form an unlikely bond as they both struggle to make amends for their criminal pasts. Their hopes lay in the form of a monumental T. rex fossil, the discovery potentially worth millions. Anna needs this once-in-a-lifetime find to set both her career and her relationship with her son back on track. McCoy needs the money to pay off his debts to a local cartel boss and to save his own young daughter's life. With their motivations over the bones pulling them in opposite directions, can Anna and McCoy trust one another or will they soon turn into adversaries themselves?

User Review - 10/10 by mike mI thoroughly enjoyed Valley of Bones. Let me be clear: this is not a perfect movie, but it's also not a massive blockbuster with the budget to make it perfect. However, for an independent film, I was thoroughly impressed and captivated. What I loved the most is how personal this could-just-be-an-action-movie was: the story follows the paths of two struggling parents, each on their journey to do right by their child, under the limitations of their major flaws (addiction and guilt). The heroes begin broken and crumble from there. It's an incredibly human story with an awesome bonus backdrop of dinosaur bones. Steven Molony has a standout performance in the role of the recovering meth addict - he is painful and heartbreaking to watch. I hope we continue to see AMC take risks in promoting fantastic, thoughtful indie film-making.

Director Dan Glaser does an excellent job guiding the audience through a series of sometimes heart stopping twist and turns. The screenplay is written with intelligent, thought provoking dialogue, delivered brilliantly by outstanding performances from a stellar cast. Autumn Reeser delivers the performance of her career, in her return to the big screen. Nice to see her in such a dramatic and gritty role. Steven Molony absolutely grabs you from his first scene, playing a drug addicted oil worker that you want to hate, but can't! Michael Alden Lloyd's cinematography is top-notch, providing a visual masterpiece. This is a true hidden gem, and a definite must see film!
