User Review - 10/10 by Tyler BI love this movie just because I have played the game and understand the lore of the entire movie. I completely disagree with James O'Ehley, just because he is probably one of the many people that rated this movie bad just because they don't understand the lore, let alone, the game itself! This was a great movie and the animations were perfect. So, I disagree with anyone who thinks differently.
User Review - 10/10 by Melike KAs a fan of the whole table top game i must say i have been waiting for a decent film endevour to be produced. I am happy with this film but do agree with others on the sole reason that this depicts the whole 40k universe as a small thing but it really is constant war.
User Review - 10/10 by Elder GVery well scripted and played, although for a movie in 2010 the animation could have been better.
User Review - 8/10 by John GRome wasn't build in a day. In this context "Ultramarines" should be seen as Warhammer 40k's first official sorte into the cinema realm. While geared towards hardcore fans of the Warhammer 40k universe "Ultramarines" is a land-mark occassion that will hopefully only lead to more productions of increasing talent and breadth (possibly even a move out of the animated universe?). Though the movie itself fails to give a proportional magnificence of the Space Marines in comparison to the legion of Imperial forces it nontheless touches on many of the aspects familiar to fans. It is essential that fans support this work in order to increase the reach of the Warhammer 40k universe in both Britain and across the pond. I greatly look forward to Dan Abnett's continued presence in the cinema arena.
User Review - 8/10 by Karl KThe film isn't great, it's surprisingly great!
User Review - 8/10 by Maya LAn engaging movie that keeps the action moving enough to keep interest, while remaining fairly accessible to both the enthusiast of the WH40k realms and the newcomer. It's a remarkably enjoyable B-quality movie that may is a good pick for an action moviegoer or a WH40k fan. The two weaker points of this movie is that an enthusiast will undoubtably notice the variances from canon, and while the storytelling is compelling the actual story it tells is fairly cliche. So, its not going to rock the boat, or redefine cinema, but it was an enjoyable movie, and I think that if you're an action movie of WH40k fan, you'll enjoy it.
User Review - 8/10 by Colin GThe animation is pretty tops and the voicing acting is good. A good range of actors too for a small direct to DVD movie. Could have done with a bit more action but that's just my take on the 41st millennium. It's a great fan movie if you're into Warhammer 40K and it might just get some non-players to take a look. I hope that it does well enough that we can get a series of Warhammer 40K movies (Tyranids next time please!).
User Review - 8/10 by Nathaniel BThe plot was rather sound, however the CGI left much to be desired.
User Review - 8/10 by Marcus HThe sci-fi universe of Warhammer 40k has existed since the early 1980s (created by British-based company Games Workshop), but has remained relegated to books, board-based wargaming, and video games (Dawn of War). With this strong initial entry into the broader entertainment realm, the possibility exists for even wider following to begin supporting the franchise. This, in turn, may lead to further movies, hopefully with the quality and depth improving with each one. The lore of the Warhammer 40k universe is deep and rich. One of my chief complaints after my first viewing of the movie was how little it delved into the nuances of the universe. After watching it a second time though, I realized that there was subtle depth, though only a serious W40k'er would see it. I suppose the makers had to keep it simple for the "un-initiated", as a deeper story would be harder to follow for someone unfamiliar with the universe. All things considered, the movie was well-made. The plot was decent (written by star W40k author, Dan Abnett) and though the action was rather short and limited (by lore standards, anyway), it was good to finally have visuals to attach to what has been written for so long. While many fans decried the use of the Ultramarine's chapter (in the lore, there are thousands of chapters of the Emperor's "Angels of Death", or Space Marines; each one is different in appearance, techniques for prosecuting war, and even in motivations for fighting) for an initial movie debut--and usually argued in favor of their own favorite chapter--I think the makers made the right choice. The Ultramarine's are, even in the lore, an unchanging, unflinching chapter. They stand firm in their resolve to slay the enemies of the Imperium, even willing to die for their beliefs and principles. They see the universe as black and white, and possess high standards of morality. The typical heroes, in essence. For getting a foot in the door of the wider entertainment market, it is essential for the makers to cater to the widest audience possible. In summary, this is a movie that any fan of Warhammer 40k should see, and those who enjoy a good sci-fi flick might even discover a new hobby in serving the Emperor and his loyal minions at Games Workshop!
User Review - 8/10 by Christopher KWhile the fidelity of the effects may be lackluster, the facial expressions and impressive British caste--along with the well-written script and short but intense battle scenes--make up for it. If you're a Warhammer 40k nut, young or old, it's worth the price.
