Movie Reviews

Bloody Disgusting - 8/10 by Joe LipsettThe candid, abrasive characters and dialogue in Trash Fire are frequently painful, uncomfortable and very, very funny. I
VODzilla.co - 8/10 by Anton Bitelthe hyperreal focus here is on domestic and psychological dysfunction, with an only eventually likeable protagonist unable to put conflict with his family's previous generation(s) behind him.
AV Club - 8/10 by Katie RifeWhile it doesn’t include any literal blazing piles of garbage, Trash Fire is spiteful and unpleasant from beginning to end, using every technique at its disposal — from stinging dialogue to grotesque prosthetics to morbid black comedy — to make the audience uncomfortable.
Village Voice - 8/10 by Serena DonadoniBates (Suburban Gothic) plays with horror tropes, juggling black comedy and suspense in scenes that tease a gory release but ultimately only emphasize how much members of the creative class can underestimate their backward kin.
We Got This Covered - 8/10 by Matt DonatoTrash Fire blazes with pitch-black wit and a dark, volatile story of redemption so good you'll be laughing your way straight to Hell.
Los Angeles Times - 7/10 by Michael RechtshaffenFlaming out from the get-go, Trash Fire represents another soggy batch of Southern Gothic horror-comedy from writer-director Richard Bates Jr. that spews out pitch black smoke with little combustible substance.
The AU Review - 7/10 by Harris DangThankfully consists of more fire than trash.
Moveable Fest - 7/10 by Stephen SaitoThe filmmaker's confrontational style suggests that hell is other people and he's quite adept keeping the flames rising in that regard.
Nerdist - 6/10 by Luke Y. Thompson...his dialogue is fantastic throughout, and his actors deliver it perfectly
RogerEbert.com - 6/10 by Brian TallericoSome of it is tonally inconsistent and the end feels rushed, but strong performances, especially from the great Fionnula Flanagan, along with Bates’ unique voice keep it engaging.
