Ozus' World Movie ReviewsDennis SchwartzIf you can get past its flaws, especially its stereotype characterization of the hillbillies, there's a subversiveness to it that is pleasantly intoxicating.
User ReviewMichael Lawesome movie really captivates the hardships and struggles of a family durin the depression and is one hell of a hard movie to find glad i own it on dvd
User ReviewSylvester EA true masterpiece from start to finish. I enjoyed every single moment of this film.
User ReviewDwight Blove that the only picture they could get is the spanish poster:)
User ReviewAdam ZA quite enchanting and often funny film about a family of dirt farmers in Georgia during the great depression. OK, so fundamentally we are presented with a group of stereotypical hillbillies and the film comes across as farcical during some sections, but amazingly there are several effective moments of pathos amongst them. Can't compare it to the novel or stage play, neither of which I have much knowledge of, but my understanding is that both contain a lot more satire than the movie; however, the film is fine as it is: a light hearted entertainment and a very enjoyable way to spend an hour and twenty.
User ReviewJohan AUdda John Ford-film om väldigt grovt tillyxade fattiga lantisar i södern under depressionen. En sorts buskisversion av "Vredens druvor". Extremt lättviktigt, men välgjord och rolig.
User ReviewBubba MA good movie version of Calwell's novel
User ReviewJames HSuch an odd film to be made by John Ford. Good cast, a bit too talky for my taste but the acting is excellent, especially Elizabeth Patterson, Charley Grapewin and Marjorie Rambeau. Well filmed, curiously entertaining.
User ReviewDavid SThe mix of very broad comedy and moments of drama generally struggles to work. The actors are committed to their at times underwritten roles, and Ford's direction is solid, but the script offers little of lasting value.
