Movie Reviews

Cinema Crazed - 9/10 by Felix Vasquez Jr.With often engrossing dialogue, Luna's characterization is rich and often times interesting...
Movie Dearest - 8/10 by Fr. Chris CarpenterA lovingly crafted homage...a hilarious, trans-glorifyingly good time.
Los Angeles Times - 3/10 by Gary GoldsteinIt's as if writer-director Israel Luna hatched a startling title and then flailed around trying to match its minor promise.
User Review - 10/10 by Clayton GI have a real love for exploitation cinema. I watched this movie just to be entertained by how bad I thought that it would be. In the opening credits, I was memorized. It had the same feel as a Quentin Tarantino film, only a little bit more ridiculous. That's what had me. The dialogue was what really made the movie, especially the lines that came out of Pinky La'Trimm and Rachel Slurr's mouths. There's a realistic aspect of the gay community that hasn't really been explored on film. I thought that this film almost captured it. It was a lot of fun, but filled with an underlining message. I loved the movie and I can't wait to see the future of the writer/director. If you have a sense of humor, you aren't easily offended, and you're looking for a lot of fun, check this movie out!
User Review - 8/10 by Julia GThe title says it all. Best trannies with knives revenge movie ever made.
User Review - 8/10 by Denis OBack in 2007, Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez teamed up to make the film GRINDHOUSE: DOUBLE FEATURE, a film that was meant to be a homage to the exploitation films of the 60â(TM)s and 70â(TM)s. While the project was a box office failure, what it did start was a renaissance of film directors trying to make exploitation films in the same style. Now, while most of these films did do a good enough job capturing the spirit of a Grindhouse flick, it is sad that the best of all of these films happens to be one that went unnoticed by the main stream media. That film is: Ticked-Off Trannies With Knives. For a quick idea of this film, it is basically about a group of transsexuals who try to get revenge on a bunch of rednecks that tried to rape them. Yes. The film is as weird as the description makes it out to be. And all of that is complete with gritty film prints, martial arts, obscene language, and some of the most quotable dialogue you will find in any recent film. Okay, where do I start with this film? I think the best way for me to start would be my feelings when watching this film. Going in with absolutely no idea of what to expect, I literally had to take pain pills after words because I was laughing so hard. Before you start giving me weird looks, this film is actually intelligent humor, and not stupid. Yeah, there are some scenes that makes you think it will be. But, in reality, if you have a strong understanding of transsexuals, you will get this film. If I had one complaint about this film, it would be that this film tries so hard to be a tribute to Tarantino that, honestly, it gets a bit tiresome. I mean, I am all for showing tribute to one of the greatest directors alive. But this film just overdoes it with the title cards, the dialogue, the numerous shots of peopleâ(TM)s feet, etc. If that was the directorâ(TM)s intention, to pay tribute, then she did a rather decent job at it. But if it was not, then that is a bit of a failure. The best thing, above all, with this film is that all of the transsexuals are real life transsexuals and not actors/ actresses paid to be transsexuals. The reason I point this out is that in films, it is rare to see transsexuals portrayed with respect, honor, and dignity. Here, they are shown as powerful, caring, loyal people that disserve respect from other people. This film is one that is bound to shock some people, make people fall down laughing, or offend some others due to the depiction of southerners as being transsexual hating rapists. But, in the end, this is still one of the finest examples of Grindhouse entertainment and the best offspring of Tarantino and Rodriguezâ(TM)s GRINDHOUSE: DOUBLE FEATURE.
User Review - 8/10 by Navin JOk, clearly grindhouse style with definite nods to Rodriguez and Quentin, but instead of being straight (lol) forward Israel Luna takes a roundabout way of executing the often muddled story. This could have been alot more coherent with a strict forward momentum or at least more clearly defined transitions. But, coherency aside it was a hot fun tranny mess. Think Kill Bill with trannies and sci-fi inspired weaponry.
User Review - 8/10 by Tim BFor a low budget, independent film, it was really good. It was funny and most of the acting was pretty good (ignore the Latino thugs, they suck).
User Review - 8/10 by Anne CQuentin Tarantino and John Waters are pleased to announce the birth of their bastard child. It's a bouncing, healthy transvestite exploitation/revenge movie! Wait, did I say healthy? Strike that. It is, however, a whole lot of fun to watch. It's Kill Bill meets Pink Flamingos and, yes, there are ticked-off trannies with knives here, and they're the best ones you're likely to ever see. So see them, already. This flick is camp, knows it, flaunts it and works it. Never once did I get the feeling it was trying to take itself seriously, although there are some grindhouse-style grueling moments involving large knives and foreign objects inserted uncomfortably into body cavities (the latter never explicitly shown). The eponymous trannies are of the convincingly feminine type and include a dark-skinned stand-in for Divine who plays the psychotically vengeful mama-tranny almost too well. I can't imagine why John Waters hasn't heard of him yet. Witty and catty lines spill effortlessly and convincingly, with grindhouse intensity mixing perfectly with comedy throughout. The culmination is a very dark but twistedly satisfying ending that you will NOT forget anytime soon. This is far from a perfect film. Its low budget shows through in many places, and the "reel missing" gag goes on a bit too long. The main villain isn't a very good actor; he comes across hammy and his timing is just off in a number of scenes. The effort to shoehorn in pop culture references as comedy sometimes fall flat, too. It's not enough to make this anything less than a worthwhile, fun and uniquely off-the-wall experience, though, and the presence of a subtly scary drag queen nurse with the name Helluva Bottom-Carter makes up for all of the shortcomings in a single five-minute scene. If you like John Waters, you'll definitely like Ticked-Off Trannies with Knives. If you like Both Waters and Quentin Tarantino, you'll like this gem even more. This one is destined for cult status.
User Review - 6/10 by Michael GA unique grindhouse film but definitely pays homage to it. It's hilarious but not as violent.
