| User Reviewsabrina iThis film is more exercise than anything else, but director Michael Curtiz shows his skill at creating visual flair to rank alongside many of the great stylists who forever fill our film noir imagination. Claude Rains is utterly convincing as the wealthy radio show host up to no good. Even if the plot is a little more than creaky, Curtiz's visual polish makes up for it. In the noir universe, style is almost always more important than a coherent story (remember "The Big Sleep"?) Something "The Unsuspected" proves clearly. *** Three Stars -Oliver Spivey |
| User ReviewCaleb MEnjoyable, lesser known Michael Curtiz film. Lots of characters in the supporting cast and fair amount of suspense. Far-fetched for sure, using a murder plot later borrowed for the comedy Unfaithfully Yours, as well as the fact that if everything had gone to plan the body count alone would seem a bit incriminating. Lots of noir shadowplay, a nod to Laura, and some "interesting" fashions on Caulfield, Totter and Bennett. |
