Shockya.com - 8/10 by Brent SimonA unique road trip documentary that, in attempting to throw a spotlight on the wide range of autistic spectrum disorder, broadens horizons in an invaluable way.
The New York Times - 7/10 by David DeWittYes, the animated opening sequence has a professional polish that the rest of the film lacks, but the documentary’s chosen angle is meaningful: The world of autism is as diverse as the nation.
Los Angeles Times - 6/10 by Gary GoldsteinAlthough it favors breadth over depth, the documentary The United States of Autism offers a tender look at an eclectic array of children, their parents and other individuals affected by this ever-increasing developmental disability.
Variety - 6/10 by Ronnie ScheibThe documentary clarifies the breadth of the autism spectrum, from those who lack basic language and/or motor skills to those at the high-functioning end who do not seek a "cure" but rather social acceptance in the name of neurological diversity.
Hollywood Reporter - 4/10 by Frank ScheckThis emotional documentary succeeds in putting a human face on this growing health issue.
Village Voice - 3/10 by Daphne HowlandThe United States of Autism is an example of a well-meaning documentary that may do more harm than good.
User Review - 10/10 by Lin WI want to see this again and again and again! The film shows real families with autism from all across our nation who actually live autism 24/7. They have no ulterior motives. They know what they live and they share those experiences and that knowledge. Sure, you may be at a loss to find those views, that knowledge and those experiences in the media, on television or in the news headlines, because they are real, unbridled and unfiltered. This film has extreme value in that it shows EVERY side of autism as it is, not how some would have it be. This is it. This is real. This film IS autism. Period.
User Review - 10/10 by Matthew BI am not a father to a child with autism. I am however a father and I did connect with Rich. Every man is scarred at some point in his quest to become a man. Oftentimes the scar comes from their father. Rich's reunion with his father is not only relevant but necessary in his own quest to find answers, perspective, and understanding. There is no special agenda here. There are only real lives and experiences of people affected by autism. I left inspired to be a better father to my own children. That is after all what all fathers strive for right? Well done Rich Everts.
User Review - 10/10 by Evelyn CGreat film! It was touching and real. I loved seeing all of the different angles shared, and I felt like the main message of the movie was HOPE. We all have our different opinions about autism, but in the end, every one of these families wants the same thing for their loved ones: happiness, love, etc. I thought it was interesting and really enjoyed it!
User Review - 10/10 by Reina dExcellent film that shows the heart behind all the different divisions within autism movement. Wonderfully diverse!
