Out MagazineArmond WhiteRewatching it triggered my rediscovery of that period in film history when gay subjects were just gaining visibility and mainstream mediamakers were advancing recognition at the same time as the out-front cultural progress of disco.
Nolan's Pop Culture ReviewMichael A. SmithFunny version of the Broadway show. Look for an early Treat Williams appearance.
User Reviewdeep dI LOVE this film. It's hysterical. Rita Moreno as Googie Gomez singing "Everything's Coming Up Roses" is a classic scene. Great cast including Treat Williams and Kaye Ballard! I just wish it was available on DVD!
User ReviewRobaire .This movie is a scream!!! It's not everyday that you see F.Murray Abraham flittering around like a fluttering dove...A Very Young Treat Williams playing a quirky Private Eye...Rita Moreno as a Transexual Singer and Paul B. Price as this hysterical "Chubby Chaser". If you are into "real" laughs...then this is your movie!!!!
User ReviewThomas FA brilliant comedy of a man who hides out in a Gay bathhouse to avoid being killed. A hilarious young Treat Williams plays a detective . The best part for me was the whole chubby chaser get up! Definitely worth seeing.. one of my favourite films from the 70s.
User ReviewDave SA cult classic - my fave all time comedy. Had a big impact on me when I was about 20 - always wanted to go to a bathouse like this (shouts "Orgy in room 56 in 5 mins"). Why oh why can' you get it anyhere on video/DVD.
User ReviewBradley Han absolute classic SCREWBALL COMEDY everyone should see this movie it is soooooo funnnnnyyyyy
User ReviewPaulo SBrah! This movie was so funny! Rita Moreno was the s%#t! Definitely one movie to watch if never seen before.
User ReviewBryan IThis is hysterical. A dying mobster puts the hit on his son in law who goes into hiding. What he doesn't know is he is hiding in a gay bath house. Where his old army buddy, a "chubby chaser" is also staying. Where his brother has sent an investigator to flush him out. An investigator who the lounge singer thinks is a broadway producer and is trying to bed, though she thinks he is gay, to get her big chance on broadway. And then there is F Murray Abraham...
User ReviewBenjamin Sstarts out like the tackiest mafia movie ever. then the farce starts!! It's still one of the funniest movies I've ever seen, dated and outrageously camp as it is. Don't let the subject matter put you off, theres nothin to inflame the 'phobe anywhere in it, and loads of one liners and gaffs to carry it through.
