After a nationwide casting search including college campuses across the country--Arizona State University, University of Oklahoma, University of Vermont, University of Wisconsin at Madison, University of Georgia, Texas Tech, Boston University and Washington State University--the filmmakers cast a unique collection of real people ready to explore reality's barriers beyond the limits of television, while on the ultimate Spring Break vacation, with surprising results. Designed to be the first true reality feature film, six camera crews followed the cast--made up of 16 American college students--and filmed their exploits as they immersed and indulged in the Spring Break revelry of Cancun, Mexico. Filmed 24 hours a day over the course of a week in March 2003, the movie was shot on location and reveals the students' exploits through interviews and planned group activities, as well as through their own spontaneous adventures.

Movie Reviews

New York Post - 9/10 by Megan LehmannIt actually works as a sometimes funny, occasionally scandalous, but mostly involving narrative.
L.A. Weekly - 9/10 by John PattersonNo matter how “real” things appear, scenarios and story arcs are relentlessly imposed upon the partay-cipants so as to finesse a narrative as crudely overdetermined and howlingly predictable as any studio-manufactured fiction.
Worcester Telegram & Gazette - 9/10 by Daniel M. KimmelIt's not quite the end of civilization as we know it, but it's not a good sign.
Kalamazoo Gazette - 8/10 by James SanfordA few of the people we meet appear to be so brain-dead, you wonder how they manage to breathe without assistance -- and this is before they hit the bar!
CinemaBlend.com - 8/10 by Joshua TylerA surprisingly funny, engaging, and entertaining 90 minutes of almost real entertainment, which in a way comes closer to resembling John Hughes' The Breakfast Club than the usual Survivoresc reality crud.
Supercala.com - 8/10 by John VenableDelivers what it's intended audience wants in large doses...boobs, booze, and hooking up.
San Francisco Chronicle - 8/10 by Mick LaSalleThere's a case to be made for The Real Cancun as a document of the mating dance as well as an unintentionally poignant film about the brevity of youth.
Internet Reviews - 8/10 by Steve RhodesGrown-up adults who are honest with themselves will find themselves yearning to relive their youth.
Variety - 8/10 by Scott FoundasUnabashedly tasteless, wholly trashy and, also, hugely entertaining.
Entertainment Weekly - 7/10 by Owen GleibermanIt's just a camcorder soap opera of packaged hormonal fervor -- ''The Real World'' with extra tequila body shots.
