User ReviewCarol GIt's interesting to read that this is based on a true story. I think it is a beautifully done, very heartwarming story that shows some truths about connection and meaning, and not losing touch with what is really important by searching for success.
User ReviewLogan MThe Last Brickmaker in America stars Sidney Poitier as a widowed brickmaker who is still grieving over his wife's death and is in danger of being late delivering bricks for a school building project. An employee of the building contractor is estranged from his wife and they both are experiencing difficulties with their only son. The son vandalizes the school, is caught and punished, and as he works on his dad's project, he encounters the bricklayer and their brief, if not completely friendly, conversation intrigues the young boy. He visits the brickmaker and learns how to build bricks by hand and grows in character as well as in interest in learning. His parents initially object to him being at the brickmaker's home but they relent and gradually the parents are wooed over to the brickmaking enterprise and to reconciling with one another. A beautiful, heart warming story of love that continues beyond death and how the older generations have much to teach younger generations. 10/10.
User ReviewPatrick LI watched this last night and am ever so glad I did. I had never heard of this film but discovered it in a local store and took a chance on it. Sidney Poitier stars in this film of a widowed man still mourning his wife (neglecting his work on bricks for a local school), a problem kid who vandalizes that same school and his separated parents (the wife works at the school while the husband is a contractor employee on a project building/rebuilding part of the school). Their lives become intertwined when Poitier sees the kid shovelling at the school (making up for his crime) and talks with him about his work, then offering to show the kid what brickmaking is about. The kid is initially rude but he later comes to Poitier's house and begins to learn from him. The two begin to care about one another and then the parents are slowly drawn back into relationship with their son and then each other. A beautiful story, beautifully acted and performed, this one is one for the ages.

User ReviewWayne HQuaint story with Sidney Poitier. In many respects the plot was predictable. I only recommend this movie if you are a Sidney Poitier fan.
