User Review - 10/10 by David GAlso known as "The Five Daughters Affair" parts one and two, this sees the U.N.C.L.E. agents Napolean Solo (Robert Vaughn) and Illya Kuryakin (David McCallum) on a global quest to stop a THRUSH agent - guest star Herbert Lom - from gaining a formula to extract gold from seawater. Memorable for it's portrayal of Swinging London featuring both Terry-Thomas and Jill Ireland, the opening sequence is also fun as a squadron of THRUSH gyrocopters ambush the agents on a lonely mountain highway. Features two future James Bond heavies with Curd Jurgens and Telly Savalas joining Joan Crawford on the guestlist.
User Review - 6/10 by Karsh DSpin off from the man from U.N.C.L.E series, this is a nice little tongue in cheek spy comedy drama.
User Review - 6/10 by Timothy Jgood spy thriller based on the wonderful TV series 'the man from u.n.c.l.e.'
User Review - 6/10 by Barnaby EA guilty pleasure film for me, which I'll often return to (thinking that this time I'll probably hate it, and then just revelling in the lunacy and hilarity of it all). This is only technically a movie, as it's - in actuality - a few episodes of 'The Man From U.N.C.L.E.' stitched together (a practice that was used for a few series to entice the European market into liking the series itself) and you can often see the joins. But, this is an over-the-top, charming, goofy, mad and inspired story about a scientist who has created a formula, on accident, to turn sea-water into gold and then dies before he can give U.N.C.L.E. the secrets of his experiment. So, therein lies the chase between the 007-inspired antics of Napoleon Solo (Robert Vaughn, all suave and debanoir) and Iilya Kuryakin (David McCallum playing Russian, with a slight Scots brogue, blonde hair and blue eyes) and many agents of their nemesis organisation, T.H.R.U.S.H. (who can't be got rid of with natural yoghurt). It's silly and joyful to watch, with some famous actors popping up in ludicrous cameos. And it has a brilliant song to start the whole thing ('Come On Down To My Boat' by Every Mother's Son). It's fluffy silly spy stuff born out of the '60s obsession with espionage and fear. But, I love it.
User Review - 4/10 by Paul DExactly the same as the television series in its production, but cut together into a feature length episode. It's a pretty dull one too, which is a shame as this arguably has the best eclectic mix of big screen names on show for this story.
User Review - 4/10 by Simon TAnother unfathomable plot, another ninety minutes of stock footage interspersed with back projection and a slew of oddly-cast cameo appearances (Joan Crawford as a teary widow, Terry-Thomas as a London copper). Mindless bubble gum.
User Review - 4/10 by Jay BFor those of you who may not remember the classic television espionage series "The Man From U.N.C.L.E."(which ran on NBC-TV from 1964 until 1968)starring Robert Vaughn as Napoleon Solo and David McCallum as Illya Kurkayim was one of the biggest hits of the 1960's. However, there were seven U.N.C.L.E movies that were released theatrically in the United States(some of these movies were in fact composed of two-parter episodes of the TV series that MGM released in theatres)and "The Karate Killers" was one of them. This was originally based as a two-part episode of the television series, which MGM however took the episodes and released them in the theatres, which proved to be successful with additional footage added that was not seen in the episode version that was shown on television. By the way, this theatrical version was based on a episode that was in Season 3 of UNCLE(which was to some of its biggest fans was the worst entry in the series---seasons 1 and 2 were good, but season 3 was the worst, while the final season made up for the stupidity that was in the last season) What was made up in plot, was taken over by plenty of action scenes with Robert Vaughn and David MacCallum taking out the baddies of THRUSH!!!
