New York Times - 9/10 by A.H. WeilerBoth Edmond O'Brien and Frank Lovejoy are experts as stalwart men gripped in a situation they never made.
Chicago Reader - 8/10 by J. R. JonesThis hell-for-leather 1953 noir demonstrates Ida Lupino's facility with actors and flawless pacing.
Ozus' World Movie Reviews - 7/10 by Dennis SchwartzTalman's performance as a sadistic sleaze was powerful.
Movie Metropolis - 7/10 by Christopher LongIf they gave awards for holding a gun in every single scene of a film from start to finish, (William) Talman would have won.
The Dissolve - 6/10 by Mike D'AngeloThere's no estrogen whatsoever in The Hitch-Hiker, as spare and muscular a picture as the 1950s ever produced.
EmanuelLevy.Com - 6/10 by Emanuel LevyThis suspenseful film noir is superbly acted and sharply helmed by Ida Lupino, one of the few women directors in Hollywood of the 1950s.
User Review - 10/10 by Tony PTaut, tense and spare thriller. Not a wasted word. You don't need blood and vulgarity to make an effective thriller, just talent. Ida Lupino had that in spades.
User Review - 10/10 by Jayden CIda Lupino's epic film noir, did that sound film reviewish enough? Brilliant. Much better than any Hitchcock rubbish - especially Psycho. What a piece of shit that was.
User Review - 10/10 by Tina DI purchased this movie in a collection of B Film Noir films for a very low price. This movie I would have paid upwards of $30 for (had I known about it) It is expertly put together, filmed, acted and directed. The opening sequence grabbed and the villain truly scared me from then on. A great example of the Road Movie genre's felxibility and potential. If you have a chance to, see it.
