Time OutGeoff AndrewMaddin's brilliant, delirious short is a spot-on pastiche/parody of a silent Soviet propaganda epic, full of phallic symbols, visionary heroes and splendidly emphatic montage.
City Pages, Minneapolis/St. PaulRob NelsonFurther propelled by a suitably frantic Soviet orchestral score, the insane rush of scratched, jumpy images compels you to keep your eyes as wide as possible for the entire six minutes -- even though you couldn't dream of absorbing it all.
User ReviewZachary SNo second is wasted in this six minute short. Perfect.
User ReviewHarry EThe perfect silent movie for those with short attention spans. Granted, it's only six minutes, but it's perfectly executed and very weird.
User ReviewZoran SThis is Guy Maddin's masterwork and such a rich six minutes that I find something new in each screening still.
User ReviewBrent KThe best ever Guy Maddin short. BEST EVER!
User ReviewJack SSix minutes of perfection from madman Maddin! An insane little silent film/newsreel/coming attraction. A love story at the end of the world. Jesus, a mortician, and an industrialist vie for the affections of scientist Anna. Laughs and thrills. Genius.
User ReviewPrivate UA inspired tip of the hat to classic film and a thrilling short in its own right. It has all the raw emotion of a well done passion play.
User ReviewLiz GThe amount of frames and meaning that were squeezed into 6 minutes is amazing.
User ReviewDeering RA pefect example of why I love the art form so much.
