User ReviewTaylor Sskit comedy, some jokes are way out there but overall excellent comedy
User ReviewRob FThose not interested have NO CLUE. This is the one movie that makes me LOL every time I watch it, and I've seen it many many many times over the years. I wish I could bottle this film!!
User ReviewD MRaunchy humor, but absolutely hilarious. Even better than Kentucky Fired Movie and Amazon Women on the Moon.
User Reviewcount bGroove Tube and Tunnelvision two greats of their time. Short daring scetches poke fun at things people are too serious about. (It was great to find it on DVD on eBay). This is the movie with the upside down talking dick, and reality-like TV about two drug dealers! - Back when I saw it the first time, I WEPT with laughter over the Easy Lube Brand Vegetable Shortning sctech! Sadly, it is not as funny today.
User ReviewWilliam CYou need to understand the times in which this came out...The opening spoof of "2001:A Space Odyssey" was a mere 5 years after Kubrick's masterpiece. The soundtrack by Curtis Mayfield played upon the blaxploitation genre...and the allusions to drugs and the counter-culture lent credence to a political lampooning thread. This is high art, people. Maybe you are too young to 'get' the jokes. At the time it came out "The Groove Tube" lambasted sex, politics, hippies and skewered "The Establishment". In one of Life's great ironies, Richard Belzer plays a stoner drug-dealer. His scenes as "The President", a prostitute, and others in this film are a prelude to his later, more mainstream success. The brief nudity, honestly can be described as 'titillating". Chevy Chase also has several appearances, or at least portions of his body do... This film is a gem of funny, pithy observations on people, culture, and the good old USA. Enjoy it as a look into the past of comedy and satire!
User ReviewRon AThe first great skit comedy film. Would never get done today.
User ReviewMatt AThis was insane. Ridiculous. I really liked how while it was fast paced in terms of switching from one skit to another yet there were lots of long shots and extended segments where not much happens for awkward uncomfortable humor. I always love that kind of thing and you never see it too much. While some of this was dated (though that was part of the charm for me) a lot held up, and bad versions of some of these skits are the type of thing you see on Mad TV and other lame shows of its time today. Comedy doesn't age that much. Hell - this certainly wouldn't get an R rating today. I doubt even an unrated version would cover that close-up talking penis. And the cooking segment! This is a perfect late night movie. Being a little tired makes this even more over the top.
User ReviewBrian PI still count "Kentucky Fried Movie" as my favorite film of all time... but its predecessor comes close. The fact that it opens and closes on Curtis Mayfield's "Move On Up" scores points right there. The sketches are gratuitous and completely over the top; only a couple of dead spots keep this from overtaking KFM as my favorite.
User ReviewHarley Cà voir absolument pour qui aime l'humour des Nuls. Le même 20 ans avant! films à sketchs.mon préféré: le clown pour enfants qui devient lecteur public de textes du Marquis de Sade.
User ReviewBennett BThis is a childhood favourite. It may seem dated today but this was quite risque for it's time.
