Movie Reviews

Alternate Ending - 9/10 by Tim BraytonPropaganda, yes, but enormously artful propaganda... works like gangbusters as melodramatic hokum.
The Spectator - 9/10 by Celia SimpsonThe Russians have certainly an eye for significant and symbolical detail in their cinema production.
User Review - 10/10 by Kris CThe poor die from starvation. The poor die in combat. What for? The profit of the few. More brilliance from Pudovkin, one of the Soviet silent masters
User Review - 10/10 by Alex BGreat, especially in comparison to Einstein's 'October.' Character-driven and less painstakingly historically comprehensive.
User Review - 10/10 by Pavandeep SI found this moving, it's one of the few movies I can shed a tear and probably the oldest film I could do it too.
User Review - 8/10 by Harvey MVery impressive early Russian film directed by Vsevolod Pudovkin, there were many great filmmaking tricks, especially the editing. I loved the panic during the factory scenes and I was surprised that an 80 year old film could have so much tension during some scenes, particularly the moment the husband was coming home to his wife while the police were in the house and the scene with the worker telling the rich guys where the bald guy was. It?s slow at times but it?s really worth viewing just to see how the Russians made an impact on film.
User Review - 8/10 by Peter HSilent classic by Pudovkin depicting the suffering of the poor through war or starvation. Gives an ideological backdrop to the Russian revolution.
User Review - 8/10 by Ariel Di love the early soviet films. there is so much value on national spirit and brotherhood. pudovkin really is the solid #2 man behind eisenstein
User Review - 8/10 by David KA pioneer in what cinema is today, Pudovkin helped establish the Soviet Montage theory which is essential to every movie that is made. "Konets Sankt-Peterburga" has some pretty outstanding sequences, but the film's purpose is that of propoganda. Because of that, I found the story weak and unrealistic. Even though that may have been the point, to embellish the Russian Revolution of 1917, it still doesn't make for that entertaining of a film. Technically though, the film has a lot to offer.
