Movie NationRoger MooreThe Devil Below is at its best when our soon to shrink quintet is on the run, scrambling to figure out what’s chasing them and if the locals are there to help or make things worse.
Los Angeles TimesNoel MurrayThe best thing The Devil Below has going for it is its stark, remote location, which evokes the feeling of a world unto itself, hidden away in rural America. But what happens in front of this striking backdrop is too blandly familiar — and not nearly hellish enough.
User ReviewgarybrunsvoldEnjoyable suspense horror movie. Decent characters, including my favorite deputy hoskins from the OG Halloween movie. Creature effects are suitably creepy when they are shown about 2/3 of the way for the movie. The last scene is a little cheesy but overall, it kept a good pace without dragging in any spot.
User ReviewHellHoleHorrorThe technical elements of this film are excellent. The rest are either bad or so average it's not even worth mentioning. But I will. I think I'm going to lay most of the blame for this unoriginal film of boredom onto the writing. It is the most unoriginal, boring and outright nonsensical series of forgettable characters doing very little whilst copying badly from so many good films. Maybe I should blame the director for ripping off so much. The reveal of the monsters is lifted directly from The Descent (2005). The Aliens (1986), Phantoms (1998), Silent Hill (2006) inspiration are too obvious. The character motivations make no sense. The monsters look terrible shuffling along and their lifecycle and anatomy make no sense and they try to hide how bad the monsters look by using a filter over most of the shots that they are in. Unoriginal. Boring. Stupid. Save for life for something else, it's not even bad-good.
User ReviewManiacmoviemanReally boring, plain story and forgettable characters. The monsters were mediocre at best. The only reason to watch this movie is to see for yourself how poorly shot some of the scenes are. Boggles my mind that someone thought this was a good idea. Unless you have a massive tolerance for bad movies, stay away.
