EmanuelLevy.ComEmanuel LevyThe plot of Mervyn LeRoy's adventure is routine but the special effects are good (for its time) and it's well acted by Frank Sinatra as a convict and Spencer Tracy, again playing a priest.
Dispatch-Tribune NewspapersSteve CrumColorful disaster movie with good teaming of Tracy and Sinatra.
User ReviewAnna DExcellent, intense and sad, but very good

User ReviewJezzy AI thought this movie was excellent. Frank Sinatra plays a prisoner on an island on the virge of a volcano with only one thing he cares about, himself. Spencer Tracy plays a priest desperately trying to reach orphans under his care on the island. Sinatra and his fellow inmates Charlie and Marcel volunteer to help the old priest to receive lesser jail time however they may find themselves changing and and caring more for others than themselves.
User ReviewJarryd Rone of the best ever. Marcel dies in a swamp, unforgettable scene.
User ReviewNate TSuspense builds towards the end. Otherwise it is an excuse to see Spencer Tracy and Frank Sinatra in a film together.
User ReviewTony A Aold classics/ hey it's the spenc and frank nuff said
User ReviewScott Pit great. yea i no it look really fake and there r sputid part. but come on spencer tracy and old blue frank sinatra r great one as a drunk priest trying to save his hospital and Sinatra just a bad ass.
User ReviewElena .Yeah, I saw this movie at a late night showing, quite long ago. I guess movies you see late at night, that cross your path by complete chance affect you more than any Bergman ever could. The poster you see walking home one night, a bit old, a bit battered by the wind and rain at a revival theater, showcasing this movie you know nothing about.. and the choice to go and see it, after a long, deep look at the image before you, become a sort of initiation that is something all your own Past classics, past perfection and past pretension, just something you can know, understand, and enjoy. Maybe this movie isn't much, and the near-empty theater can surely vouch for that, but there was an intimacy I felt watching this movie that night, about redemption, or whatever it was about (it was very long ago..) that was more explosive than it ever could've been during the day, at any other place. I remember every single image, and the feeling I had watching it.. but I really can't say what it was about, just that it had some pretty powerful images that can imprint themselves on your mind like ink seeping on a wet napkin, at the right place and at the right time. Not very helpful, I know.
